If at first you don't succeed - do you give up or try again?

This afternoon I was watching my kitten Lily trying to jump onto the garden wall. She is very tiny, and she kept on geting half way, and falling backwards - but what intrigued me was that she never gave up. She just sat down, looked at the wall for a long time, and then just tried again. Maybe she takes after me, as I am very persistant - some may say stubborn! LOL! So I got to wondering..... how about everyone else here? What are you like? If you don' succeed at anything, do you get disheartened, and give up, or does it make you more, and more determined to succeed. Please let me know! Oh, and by the way - she jumped the wall eventually:-))

I think it probably depends on how badly I fair in the first place. If it looks like I will no chance of ever succeding then I do try to give up but if I only fair by a very small amount then I will try again.

I can be very stubborn or I will keep trying and trying in most things. Ok, sometimes you really have to quit while you are behind but generally I do persists until I make it.

Well that depends if I like it or not. If I don't like I don't try it. If I do like it then I'll keep on doing it. I have given up but only when I'm certain that I cannot do it, if I'm not sure then I keep trying.

nop i dont give easily, i have failed many times in my life but still striving hard to succeed and i believe in due time i can reach what i really wanted or my dreams in life. like the the tiny kitten that has try and try until the time she finally jumped the wall, that i also like us. it doesnt mean at first we failed, we dont have to try again and strive. of course we should try and not give up because its a learning process and time by time you will learn from the failures and make you a better person.

It depends on how important what I'm trying to do is to me and what's at stake I guess. But I'll probably try and try again, the pesistent me.

I keep on trying and trying until I do succeed or til I realize that I need to stop and try something else. The reason for failing could be that you set your goals too high or set unrealistic goals which is preventing you from succeeding. Most people probably do not succeed on their first attempt to do something and may take several times.

Wow lovely kitten rosie! As long as I am concerned with trying things again, I am not sturbon like you LOL. Actually I don't go for a thing where ther may be no chance of win. But for simple thing I do try again and again. When I enjoy something I do like to try repetadly if I can't get success.

Aw, your kitten sounds so adorable!! I can just picture her staring at the wall, and then trying again. How cute is that? I love it. I don't think that I'm really at one end of the spectrum or the other, on this issue. I really want something when I want it, so usually I will try for as long as I feel it's worthwhile to try, which can be quite awhile, even if it feels like I'm not getting the results that I wanted. But there will always come a point where I'll give up. I'm so glad to hear that Lilly jumped the wall eventually! If only I could jump all of my own personal walls, lol! Let me tell you, I'd be a lot happier ^_~

Oh I am definitely a persistent little sh!t! I won't give up without a heck of a fight. If I set my mind to do something, ninty-nine percent of the time I get it done. What's that 'ole saying, "A winner never quits and a quitter never wins!"

Hey Rosie glad to read that Lily made it!! As for me I'm a stubborn old git so I keep trying but I also like to look for different ways of solving problems rather than just banging my head against that brick wall, mind you if a brick wall was the problem then my banging on it would soon make a hole in it haha!

What about if there is no other way to solve a problem?

Well. Certain things i give up. Especially when i see it being a hard fight and other times i do re-try and again. sometimes i gve up after a few tries and sometimes i keep on trying. It really depends on what it is. If something impossible for me then i do try and overcome it if i see it being slightly possible. Makes no sense at all :| Kudos! ~Joey

If I don't succeed I try again with a different approach to the problem. It's also subjective on what task is given to me, if it's just a minor task and I can't seem to grasp it then I won't waste my time and move on to another task where I might have a chance for success.

yep. it's important to learn the fact about moving on. if we keep on not succeeding during the first few attempts, it just means that it's time to move on and that such circumstance wasn't really meant for us.

If it's worth it, keep trying. If it's ridiculous, give up.

I'm a try again kind of girl. I think being disabled has a lot to do with that. If you don't try again when you fail and you are disabled you will never learn knew skills or have a social life. Those things are too important for me to give up on or allow other people, who emulate what I do, to abandon.

For me it depends on the situation. If it is possible then why not to try to do it again? Sure i will if there is a possibility.

I never quit. I try till I succeed. Sometimes I miss some simple solutions though !

i will get upset at first but i will not give up... i will just look at it as a learning period where can i learn and think other way to make me succeed on it and be more determined... and i imagined how cute your kitten is...

the difference between persistence and stubbornness is whether you have a correct direction .Supposed you ha d a correct ,and you persisted with your dream ,you would be successful one day for sure ,and then nobody will say you stubborn ,because you have achieved great success
