Best Place to Live

Where do you think is the best place to live? I was born and raised in FL and have lived here all my life. My daughter is in NY and my son in GA. I have relatives and friends in TX, MO, KS, CA, AZ, WA, MA, MS and many other states. Let me know what you think.

I've been to the US one time only. I lived in Ohio and also visited Washington, DC. I liked it there a lot. But let me anyway say what I think the best place to live is. As for me, the best place to live in this world is where your beloved ones live. The people I love is my family - my parents, my husband and my son, and also my brother and his family.

I sure do agree with you, Julie. Now it looks like most of my family will be retiring in the northern Georgia area, so that's something for me to think about. I hate having family scattered all over the country.

I think that every place has good and bad things about it. I would like to live in Seattle - after my mini-vacation there. It's a big city but there is still so much nature around. I'd also like to spend a couple years in NYC. I was born in Ohio -lived there half my life and the rest of my life so far in Florida. I think that when I have children I'd like to raise them somewhere else - somewhere with better schools, more land, and a simpler way of life.

My cousin who was born in Florida lives in the Seattle area and loves it. My daughter lives on Long Island in New York. My husband was born in Dayton, Ohio and I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. We're retiring next summer and will most likely move somewhere in north/central Florida (maybe near Ocala). Many of our friends in South Florida are moving to the Ocala area. My son moved his family out of South Florida 3 years ago. They live just south of Atlanta and really love it there. I wish you luck in finding the right place to raise children one day.

India is best, but heavy population and lack of privacy. But we can enjoy the support from all angles. This is another type of living style with lots struggle and politics. But the cooperative attitude is at its best.

Prasad, the heavy population and traffic here in South Florida is why I want to move. Too many people and too much traffic. LOL. I just wish I could take my neighbors with me.

Wherever my family are is the best place for me to live, providing it is in Australia that is. LOL I don't think there is one perfect or ideal place for anyone to live, but preferably it should be close to those who are near and dear to us. :)

We have never made it a secret that when our son finally settles down we will move to be near him, whereever that might be. We want to be a couple of hours driving time away from him, so we are close enough if help is needed by us or him but far enough away so he has his own space. Good luck with your move and hope that you can get the family to be closer and less scattered than they are now. :)

I think my husband and I have decided to move somewhere between South Florida and North Georgia in order to be closer to my son and his family. We're hoping to get my daughter and her family to move to Georgia so we can see all of them at one time. We're retiring next year, so we'll see. Thanks for your response. I know what you mean about being close to those that are near and dear.

That's what I'm hoping for, ossie. My daughter and her 2 girls will be here tomorrow for a week, and I'm going to work on them to move from NY to GA. That's all I want for Christmas, New Year's and my birthday. LOL. ;)

I live in New York, not New York City though. I am from the Central New York area. Personally, I love it here. The only thing that I am not to thrilled about is the snow, which so far has been like nothing. My boyfriend loves it though because of snowmobiling. Anyways, I love New York because, when you really think about it the weather isn't that bad. For the most part, there are just a few thunderstorms ro a couple feet of snow, but that is typically the worst that happens (lol knock on wood).

Yeah, knock on wood. My daughter lives on Long Island and had to get through a blizzard to have her daughter in March 1994. But this year, it looks like Colorado is getting the worst and the northeast is having an easier winter...so far.

My favorite place to live would have to be Hawaii......The weather is great the Islands are to beautiful for words and the people are great it's like the mainland used to be everyone knows their neighbors........When anyone needs help they all ban together and help each other out........The nationalitys that live together all seem to melt together...When they have a desaster they all come together because they know there is no help coming.......The only draw back is the fact that every thing has to be shipped in which causes the cost of living being very high but people there seem to cope with it......

Some day I hope to get to visit Hawaii. I've heard it's very beautiful and so much to see.

So you're Zypsy type. It is good to be mingled with lots of cultures and habitat. I too like the living style of yours.

I enjoy being around people from different cultures, and that's how our neighborhood is and why I'd love to take my neighbors with me when I move.

I think CA is the best place to live - no snow, and no really cold weather.

The problem with Tampa is that is as large as where I live now. I'd really like a place with less traffic. You're right about the people there.

My husband and I talk about the best place to live every year. We hate the heat in the summer and hate the cold in the winter! We live in the panhandle of Texas. We'd love to find the perfect place...nice, comfortable weather year around...low humidity...don't know where that is though! LOL

It's certainly not where you are or where I am (South Florida). LOL. Although we usualy have decent winters, our summers are 9-10 months long and hot and humid. Thanks so much for your response. My sister lives in the Fort Worth area, and it's pretty hot and pretty cold there also.

Actually, Dallas/Fort Worth sometimes has worse winter weather than we do. We had always talked about moving a little more south, and Dallas seemed ideal since it is a big metroplex with lots of job opportunities plus shopping, opera, symphony etc. etc. but last say, 5 years, their weather has been more severe than in the panhandle. I guess it's what you get used to!

HSBC ARENA - HOME OF BUFFALO SABRES
HOCKEY
I have lived in Western NY State my entire life. I've grown up listening to all of the jokes and sarcastic comments about the weather in Buffalo, but I have to say it's not THAT bad. Sure, it snows here; some years it snows a LOT, and I get sick of the cold for 5 months of the year. But, unlike a hurricane, tornado, flood, or wildfire (which occur frequently in other parts of the US), we get snow, they plow the streets, we clean out our driveways, and we continue our lives. We don't lose our homes and all of our belongings when it snows. AND, our summers are beautiful. After surviving a Buffalo winter, we always enjoy every minute of the summer. I've travelled a lot for my last job to meetings in NY City, Chicago, Boston, Washington DC, Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Francisco, Orlando... They're all beautiful places, but I can't think of one where I would love to relocate. The traffic patterns alone in some of these places is enough to send you packing. Even on the busiest morning during rush hour, with it snowing and an accident on the expressway, what we call a delay here is 15-20 minutes late. Who else can say that. So, I guess I'll stay put. I actually like this area.

Good for you! It really helps to enjoy where you live. I used to work with people from Buffalo and Rochester, and they felt the same way. I never did figure out why they lived in South Florida. I've just never lived where it snowed every year or heavily. The two worst places I've seen for traffic snarls and heavy congestion are Atlanta and Orlando. I detest having to drive through either city. I'm glad my son lives south of Atlanta. It's a pleasure driving in Kansas City, MO when we go visit my sister there; but I also dislike the Dallas/Ft Worth area where another sister lives. Of course, our traffic situation here in South Florida is the main reason we want to relocate when we retire. Thanks so much for responding.

This is a hard question, every place has its drawbacks as well as its comeliness, which I reckon is also up to interpretation as some like arid desert views while others like lush hillsides, and for still others it is the high planes of Montana with its endless sky. I guess wherever you are it will be whatever you decide to make of it, so while I hear Alabama is one of the best places to live, I will answer your question with, for me the best place to live is where those you love are nearby.

I certainly agree with you 100%, and we're leaning toward north Florida or even Georgia to be near kids and grandkids when we retire.
