Do you give a reason for selling an item on eBay?

I sell on eBay because it makes me money, but I also buy on eBay because it saves me money. So for me it's not just for fun, it is also because it is so easy to sell on eBay.
I am at the point now that I don't need the money but it wasn't always like that.
the only thing that bothers me about people always saying they need money is the fact they wait for others to tell them how to earn money but they don't follow the path that will earn them the most, instead they follow a path that makes them work really hard to earn pennies.

They don't annoy me, but I think it is a bad idea to put that, because buyers may think you're desparate for ,oney, and offer a lower amount, than the item is worth, knowing you may be tempted to take it! I don't mind reasons like "put on weight/lost weight" or whatever for clothes, but I think the money thing is a pretty silly excuse to use.

Sometimes I see somthing like a Lego set or a toy that I know is worth 10 times what they are selling it for and I wonder why they are selling it so cheap or getting rid of it at all. If they say, "these were my sons and he moved out" then I know that chances are I am going to get exactly what is pictured and listed. Personally, I'd rather know why someone is selling something if they are a casual user of the site, that way you have something more to go on than feedback.

To be honest, I sometimes do put a reason for selling on some items. I am currently clearing out my home and have a load of things I no longer have room for or need, so I simply say that I am downsizing and need to clear the clutter. I don't think it matters too much if someone says they are selling because they need the money, I may or may not bid, it depends on how much I want the item

Thanks for your response. I agree that it really depends on how much you want it.

Hi, I think somethings like cars need a description, specially if it fairly new I suppose it makes you feel more reassured. I don't agree with 'selling because I need the money' afterall would anybody be selling stuff on ebay if they didn't need the money? I think it all depends on the item that is being sold as to whether it needs a phrase - I really don't mind if they have put a reason and sometimes backs up their credibility I think? Good discussion!

It might help in some cases. If someone's selling a computer that sounds really great I might wonder why they were selling it, and if they explain they just bought a new one or needed a more advanced model, I might feel more secure aboutbidding. If someone gave a story like they really needed the money, I don't know that would make me more likely to bid or buy. They could just be saying that. But if I saw the person was selling a lot of their other goods as well, tht might make me think that they really were selling cause they were desperate and selling much of their possessions.

Well as of yet i've never sold anything via ebay.
I am planning on using it as base for a sells project and i probably would leave a reason why i'm selling it. that reason would because we're trying to sell products and clothing etc.
As for would it make me buy it if i saw the "selling because i need the money" i personally wouldn't as i'd feel somewhat bad and on the other hand it would slightly concern me.
Kudos

I think it is kind of silly to put "selling because I need the money" because if you didn't need the money, I feel like you would donate it or give it away. I love buying and selling on Ebay and have made and saved a lot of money. I do feel that sometimes when used appropriately it does help to let people know why you are selling. Some people might see a pageant dress for example that is on Ebay and like it, but might question why on earth someone would sell it on Ebay unless there were something wrong with it. Then adding something like "moved to older age group" or "outgrew" might actually help sell on Ebay. My daddy actually bought a 57 Thunderbird convertible on Ebay a couple of years ago and is in the process of having it restored. You can definitely make more on Ebay for most things than you could at say a yard sale.
I myself have a few items that didn't sell that are new that I am now stuck with. Any suggestions?

You don't have to give a reason. But that seems like a good one to me. I'd be more likely to buy from them.
