My four year daugther is already longing for a dog. Me and my husband are still thinking it over if we buy one or not because even dogs are mans bestfriend still they are dangerous. Do you think its ok to that we will buy a dog for our daugther? What kind of dog is best for little kids?

yeah..its good when your little kids have pets on their own. coz they develop being independent. They will know how to feed their own pets, take care of them . I think you should pick a nice kind of lap dog breed for your cute daughter. maybe a shitzu! there are so nice and cute. perfect for your daughter!!

I definately think getting a dog for your family and young daughter is a great idea. I think it's educational to learn about animals, how to care for them, and their behaviors. Most dogs are great with children. You will need to decide what size and activity level of dog you would like. Labs and golden retreivers are extremely friendly, but can also be too active and chewy. I have a german shepard/greyhound mix and she's just as sweet as pie, and not destructive either. If you're concerned about shedding, there are several dog breeds that shed very little. Poodles and Portugese Water Dogs come to mind.

I'm a lab. lover. They have proven themselves over and over to be great family dogs. I really like the chocolate lab, but anyone will do. They know how to be loving and friendly as well as strong and protective. Your daughter probably won't care though:)

From your comment I'm wondering if you've ever owned a dog. Generally all dogs can be trusted with children if you get them when they are puppies and they grow up together and you teach your child how to treat the dog properly. Having said that, I would recommend a golden retriever or a lab. Both have very sweet temperaments and are especially good with children.

In general dogs are only as dangerous as they are taught to be. One test when you go to choose a dog, if the dog is small enough to fit in your arms like a puppy or smaller dog they turn the dog over on its back, the more aggressive dogs will not tolerate this. The most passive dogs will allow it for longer periods of time. One dog that even when mistreated couldn't be provoked to violence is a Cockapooterrier. That is with the cross breeding of a cocker spanial with a poodle, then cross breeding that with a terrier to form the new breed. They are the gentlest dogs, very mellow temperments and great with kids. Also they don't shed as much as say a collie would. Another good dog for kids would be a Lab, black or chocolate doesn't matter, they are very trainable, and great with kids and are being trained now to work children with disabilities. One boy who has a lab trained this way the dog helps the boy dress, and even gets is snack from the fridge, since the boy is in a wheel chair. The dog was tested to see how he would be and they put a few pounds of ground chop meat next to the boys snack, when the boy asked for his snack the dog opened the fridge and didn't touch the meat. Problem with Labs is that they stay puppies for most of their lives. collies are good with children but they do shed alot and since your daughter is so young and likely to be playing on the floor a great deal you may want to avoid that. Also mutts are likely to be more even tempered than a pure breed, since some of the pure breeds can be hyper. I can't paste the link, there is a site called ask the vet it would give you info on helping to choose a dog.

i think that's its really good that u would take a dog for yours children cause have a pet help to grown up and take responsabilities! however every breed of dog are right for children cause the dog reflect that we teach to him! but i think also that a labrador or a german sheppard will be the best!
