Newspapers and magazines are slowly dying out due to the increased use of the internet for the most up to date information. No newpaper or magazine could match the efficiency of the internet when it comes to immediate information exchange across the country and even the world.

I think that newspapers and magazines are still relevant. Many people in low socioeconomic positions don't have regular or any access to the Internet. They still need newspapers, plus people who work at those companies need those jobs the magazines and newspapers provide.

I think it just normal to be that way. Newspaper and magazines were useful since not all peoples were using internet. Surely internet deliver fast information, but it's the technology goes. Everything using internet. The most part is information right....

Yes, they owe a lot more responsibility now. Considering the valuable and powerful role played by media certain flaws have crept into it, some of these are self made while others can be attributed to external factors. One can witness the decline in the impartial role played by the media. Leaders and other sections of the society try to manipulate them for their personal gains. Many of the media houses have become stooges of political parties and try to gain the much needed concessions when the concerned party comes to power. Another problem witnessed is the tendency of certain sections of media to resort to cheap gimmick and self made scandals to increase the sale of their products. They are guided by the profit motives rather than the desire to serve selflessly. Given the vast deluge in the field of media the quality of their services has greatly deteriorated. This instead of doing good for the society does exactly the opposite. One can analyse the tunnel vision slowly creeping into the media. These are some of the ills which require a prompt solution.
It is clear that the media has a very responsible part to play in a democracy and this responsibility is bound to increase with the assumption of new functions by the state. This requires the media to rid itself of all its hindrances and work single-mindedly towards its goals and do full justice to the faith imposed on it by millions. There is a need for some kind of regulatory mechanism which could curb the media from crossing its legitimate jurisdiction and prevent it from being a mere plaything in the hands of unscrupulous elements. It should pursue a far-sighted approach as the upholder of democracy and its principles. In underdeveloped and developing countries with a democratic form of government, the levels of literacy and awareness of rights and duties very low. Under such a condition, the destiny of residents is solely the responsibility of media.

newspapers and magazines aren't dying. they will have a very long life, as many newspapers/magazines have electronic counterparts that are exactly the same as the newsprint version. they are actually proliferating, there are more publications out now than there were say twenty years ago. and with electronic medium, there is the story, the heart of the medium.
will the paper version of magazines and newspapers disapear and will they all become digitalized on some kind of palmtop/blackberry? that is a very real possibility.
but the story will live on...

I know that we are getting more and more dependant on the internet but I still enjoy reading the paper and currently subscribe to 3 different magazines. I know that you can go to their websites and get the same information but you are right there is something relaxing about hearing the rustling of the paper as you read.
