This past Friday was a rough day. I woke up feeling cramps so after several hours decided to go into the hospital ER to be checked. Only to discover that I was in labor! Contractions were pretty strong and I had dialated to a one. So, I am now on a pill every 6 hours to try and prevent the labor from returning. I've been through this before with my last child, but I am even more nervous this time! Any moms to preemies this age out there? My son was a preemie but he was right at 36 weeks my other two were term~ I've read about and saw these kind of preemies in the NICU but I would love to here someone's story. My doctor seems to think I could have the baby anytime! Someone please share with me their story if you like PM me!

please don't worry to much. it won't help the situation and could cause you to get to stressed and go back into labour.
i went into labour at 26 and a half weeks. i started contraction one morning and went to the doctor's. i was allready fully afaced and 3 cetemeters dialated. i went to the hospital and the next day my water broke and the day after that my daughter was born. she was born the day i turned 27 weeks. she was 2 pounds 2 ounces. she spent 2 months in the hospita. she had a little extra oxygen but not much she just had to have a c-pap on her to keep her lungs open. she did have a lot of apnea spells in the hospital which is when they stop breathing.
anyway she is doing good now. she has absolutely no health problems and she's perfectly normal. just hang in there. keep us updated and hopefully everything goes well.

Thanks for the encouragement! I am trying my hardest not to worry too much. I just hope all goes well. A friend told me that everyday I carry the baby is another 3-4 days that the baby won't have to stay in the NICU so I am taking it easy and hopefully all will go well! Thanks again for the concern!

None of my kids were preemies, but I just want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
Please please keep us updated as much as you can, and as the others have said, please try not to worry. Stress can cause all sorts of unwanted complications, including the onset of labor again.
Every day that your child stays inside you is more time for the baby to grow stronger and more mature, and hopefully there'll be less problems when it's born.
Take care and Good Luck!

Having a preemie can be scary. But nowadays technology is so advanced. Babies born at only 23 weeks have a good fighting chance.
My daughter was a preemie. She was born at 33 weeks 3 days. Although I was already in preterm labor for about a week, the Dr I saw (it wasn't my OB I had been seeing) decided NOT to postpone labor because an u/s revealed problems that required prompt attention. She was born at an amazing 4 pounds 9 ounces!
she was in the NICU for 6 months. She came home Febuary 13th :)

This isn't a personal story, but a teacher here at my college had all preterm babies. Her son was born about 20 years ago and he was about 2 pounds. He was so small, he could fit into the palm of your hand. They told her he probably would have a lot of disabilities and problems hearing and seeing. Now, he's a college student, an excellent athlete and he doesn't have any problems at all.
With todays technology, it's likely if you go into labor early, your baby will make it and thrive. Hang in there!

I had premature labor on 2 of my children. One I was in bed for 5 months and the other for 6 months. The pills and the countless trips to the hospital I will never forget. I can tell you though to try to lay on your left side as much as possible (not sure why tha is just what I was told) Try to avoid being over stressed by this because it could cause more problems. Not to worry though the meds they have now can help and believe me there are so many wonderful things they can do to help a baby that comes early. I agree with your friend the more you can wait the better it is. If you are on the pills I was on you shake a lot so the best you can do is get lots of movies to watch or get involved in TV shows. I was able to carry both of mine full term with the pills so hopefully they will help you as well. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

My son was born at 30 wks. He only spent 25-28 days in the hospital.
Hang in there and do whatever they tell you to do. If they say feet up, by all means keep them up! If you have the slightest twinge, please go to the hospital because preterm labor goes quickly....at least that is what I was told and I've had 2 preterm that went so quick.
Hang in there and as easy as it is for me to say this....take a deep breath and relax. Take each day as it comes.
Keep us posted!

My second daughter made it two 30 weeks. I went into labor at the end of Nov and had her in jan. It was a long two months. Between the pills and having shots to stop the labor I was able to carry her to the 30 weeks, She was fine when she was born. They put her NICU for a day till her lungs were a 100 percent. It was the scariest moment of my life. Since then my children have all been between 32 and 36 weeks. It could just be that they misread your due date. Don't stress your self out because that brings labor on try and stay off your feet as much as possible. I know that is hard because you have other children. Don't pick up anything over 10 pounds. Here's a wierd one but it's true don't vacuum. For some reason it sets your body off according to my doctor. I looked at him like he had 3 heads. Take it easy and you should make it ok. My prayers are with you.

I have never heard that vacuuming can set off preterm labor. I myself have a daughter who came home from the NICU (after being there 6 months) on Febuary 13th. So I vacuum a lot & try to keep everything as clean as possible for her sake. But I am also 17 weeks pregnant w/ #3 - and started having contractions about 3 weeks ago. When I started MAJOR cleaning for her homecoming.

Wow, that really is early, I hope that the pills work for you. I hope that the doctor put you on bedrest too so that your baby can stay in there just a bit longer. 26 weeks is really very little and hopefully you can keep the labor at bay. If it comes back, hopefully they will put you on an IV solution of magnesium sulfate and that should help the labor stop too. It is not fun to be on magnesium sulfate but it often works. Also, they can give you some shots to help develop the baby's lungs better too. I hope that that baby stays inside for a bitlonger.

My daughter came out 11 days before her due date by Caesarean & was still over cooked so i cant say i know much about premature bubs - however, i find it odd that they classed your son as premature at 36 weeks.
Here in Australia, anything from 36 week & onwards is classed as full term - maybe they just do things different there to here!
You'll be fine & should you deliver your baby sometime soon, things these days are SOOO good - you wont have anything to worry about. Bub will be in good hands & just think - at least you don't have to worry about time going slower & having to wait another 14 weeks! Bub will be with you early - i would have loved that!
Good Luck & all the very best!

My son was born at 30+2 but I am also part of a message board where some were born well before that.
Have they shown you around the NICU? Have they told you what to expect if your baby was born now?
Basically at 26 weeks babies can have a pretty good chance of survival nowadays but it does have risks and its not an easy road as they will need to stay in hospital for quite a while and are likely to suffer some complications etc needing ventilation etc.
Have they given you steroids to help baby's lungs?
Feel free to mail me if you want : TotalEclipse@talktalk.net
