Hypathetical situation......

i would be inclined to tell someone. i would talk to them myself first, and see if it helps, and then there is no choice but to tell somebody who is in the position to help them better than me. There's nothing wrong with that, i'll feel a little guilty at first ratting on them, but i'll know in my heart i did the right thing and it's better for them in future. That's what a good friend is all about.

Of course I will tell someone, a professional or their family. Even if this person is a stranger, I would say something. If someone hurt themselves intentionally, something has to be done.
