High schools teach you stuff that is not very practical and useful. They move through the material very slowly and they don't teach well enough for you to apply yourself to your full potential. They should teach more like universities.

Haiders, I think you are very wrong on this one. I very much recommend a High School Education it is not always as easy as kids think the world is. The world as you know it is a very evil a mean place sometimes. Try getting a job having a husband, having kids and so on. It's not all fun and games like it is when you are a kid. When you are a adult you have alot of responiables unlike childeren don't have. You will change your mind when your a adult trust me.

Don't get me wrong, education in general is useful. I, myself, am a university, I just don't think that what they teach in high school is useful considering the fact that most of the population will not go on for further studies, the high curriculum should be made with this in mind!

Hi! You make a very good point, Haiders, in that schools don't teach anything about money management. Everyone needs to know how to handle their money! I wish I had been taught more practical life skills like handling money instead of things I can have an accountant do for me! :-)

silver1beans.... I dont mean to sound rude. But just cos u are 'grown up' doesnt mean you have to appreciate education... maybe from a mothers p.o.v... but personally, I took little from senior school. But the one thing I did take was the harsh reality of life... The outside world is so much easier. Sure u have to work, and u have to pay bills and tax's... but school was nothing but books and bully's for me. I taught myself more than those god awefull teachers! Every day was hell for me at school.

also... I think schools teach the wrong thing... and should be more personal goal orientated... kids should decide what they wanna do before high school... then the school can teach each person what they need to know [keeping general maths/english/science]... If a kid wants to be a docter, they dont need 'Shop' class. If a kid wants to join the army, they dont need Religious Education... etc etc... Cos lets face it, most of us are gonna be in warehouses and factories. Do we need to know the square route of 14536 to do this? And dont think I have low goals in life. The world needs warehouse and factory workers! lol...

Hi! "When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school...it's a wonder I can think at all..." That's one of my favorite song lyrics! Actually, I couldn't tell you a lot about what I learned in high school, but the most valuable lessons weren't learned in the classroom. They were learned through my friendships with others. :-)

they shouldn't teach like the university that I went to. It was far too fast moving and left you to fill in all the gaps yourself which was pretty hard going even for an 18 year old. However my secondary school did teach a lot of work that was useless in my life once I left but the way it taught it was fine and it had high expectations of all of the students. However it was a grammar school and not a normal state school which is probably why.

I don't agree with you. You are totally wrong cause here in the Philippines, high school education is very, very practical and helpful. When I was in high school, I learned so many things. I don't know what kind of (high) schools you have in your place but here in our place, high school education is given importance. Education is a learning process; you start with earlychildhood then elementary then high school then college. If you still want to study, you can take up masterals after college. So, please don't say that high schools are not important.
