My avatar is my cat Melody, who died a month ago. She was not quite 3 years old. She was an indoor/outdoor cat, and she was hit by a car. She was such a wonderful cat!! She was so calm and relaxed! (well, I guess most cats are pretty relaxed!) She loved to follow DH around the house and yard, hanging out with him watching whatever he was doing. At night, if I was watching TV, she would climb up on me and lay on my chest, as close to my face as possible. She was also a fabulous hunter! Every week in the spring and summer, we were gifted with presents from Mel. She wanted to make sure we were never hungry! I think she figured if she liked mice and birds, we would too! LOL!! We have other cats and they're all special, but Melody was extra-special. I think about her every day, and I think I'll miss her and remember her forever.
Do you remember special things about cats you have lost? Do you still miss them? How do the other people and pets in your household feel?

I'm sorry for the loss of your cat Melody. What a sweet name you gave her. It hurts so much to lose a pet because their love is so unconditional and pure. Animals are angels who bring so much joy while they are alive. I hope you know that Melody was so lucky to have you as an owner and I'm sure she felt like a very loved and special kitty. I lost my cat Magic of old age on November 11. She was 17. The last year of her life was difficult she had trouble jumping up on things and lost a lot of weight. I worry that she was in a lot of pain. She was a very sweet cat who was almost like a dog. She used to play fetch and beg at the table for food. She was also quite a nervous little thing. I miss her everyday.

Thank you for your sweet words! I'm so sorry for your loss, too. I'm glad we have people with whom we can share our love of our sweet cats. Magic sounds like she was a wonderful cat! Do you have another cat at home?

I am sorry to hear that.I just lost my beloved cat,i call him Put.And i am crying right now.I met him last year on my way to work.I was in my car at that time when i heard a shriek of kitten's voice.I open the door and there he was,in front of empty shophouse crying hungrily early in the morning alone.I brought him back and my sister took care of him while i headed back to work.Fortunately,we have a mother cat at home.So he was adopted by that cat.He slept with me at night. He became my company when i slept in the tent outside the house. He will be my company when i take a walk around the neighbourhood. He knows that i was home only by hearing my cars entering the house's front yard and he will ran towards me,he'll come wherever or whenever i call.I really miss him right now.I hope he will be saved out there.I hope he will be coming home again.I miss him so much that sometimes i cannot sleep at night.

My favorite cat was Barney. He was a long-haired black and white cat. He was the mellowest cat I ever knew! He liked to sit on the edge of the bathtub and play in the water while I soaked. One day he jumped in, I think he was chasing the light reflection, and instead of panicking like most cats (he was used to being bathed) he just swam along the edge of the tub and around my back and got out. Then he sat on the other side of the room, glaring at me like it was my fault! He looked ridiculous wet, that little cat body and big puffy head! When he was about 9 years old he went outside one day and never returned, it was probably his time to go. I still miss him more than any of my other cats.

My Hunter was 10 years old and an indoor cat. I lived on the first floor apt and never had trouble from anyone. One Sunday I went visiting and left Hunt's favorite sunny window open for him to sleep in. Someone, while I was gone, pushed poisoned meat thru the screen and Hunt ate it. When I came home he was foaming at the mouth, runnign to me and yelling in the worse voice. No vet clinic was open and I tried calling Poison Control who told me to stuff mustard and milk down him. He bit me so much I had chunks of skin missing from 3 fingers. Finally one vet returned my emergency call and I took him there. Since I was gone for 4 hours and another hour had passed, we had no way of knowing how much he ate or how long the poison was in him. He was still screaming and writhing in pain and I had the doctor put him to sleep. There was nothing he could do once it hit my cat's nervous system. That was 7 years ago. Sometimes I still hear him calling for me in my sleep.

I've had lots of cats growing up. They become a part of your family.
I had a very special cat put down last week because he was suffering so much from liver cancer. He was about 13 yrs old. He had a good life. He was such a loving, affectionate kitty. He gave love and he got love in return. I miss him a lot, but I'm glad he is no longer suffering.
I go to the Humane Society frequently to socialize with the animals there. I don't know when I will be ready to get another cat. I want to give myself some time to get over losing this one.

Bless you for going to the Humane Society!! You know, that will help those cats get a permanent, loving home! Sometimes animals in the shelters are there too long, and they get anti-social, which makes them even harder to place. Because of your visits, these animals will remain friendly with people and have a much better chance of being adopted. When the time is right you'll know it, and then you can adopt your own new member of the family!

It can always be sad to remember a lost cat. My baby was a mother and now her son looks and acts just like her- it's nice but at the same time hurts to see it.

Melody reminds me of my cat Bliss who darted outside one night and never returned. She was my favorite of all the cats I have owned. Twit, her baby passed away about 2 years ago. She fell asleep under her favorite tree and never woke up.
Bliss was a cutie. She would beg for food like a dog. She also sat on our shoulders every night. Twit was a cantankerous old goat. Didn't like kids too much. But she knew when I was upset and would jump to my shoulder and kiss my neck and face to calm me down.

I have one cat in particular that I really miss, even though I only had her for a short while. She was the sweetest thing, a little black kitty with a white tummy, and she was incredibly loving and sweet and would jump on my head and wake me up in the morning. She really was everything that I'd wanted in a pet, and I couldn't believe how lucky I was to have found her. I don't blame anyone for what happened, but what happened was she was hiding in the dark halfway under our living room table, and the lights were off, and my mother had these really heavy shoes on and somehow managed to partially step on her because she couldn't see the poor kitten there in the dark :( Well, since the kitten was so small, she was hurt and the vets couldn't help without really expensive surgery which might not have saved her, so we had no choice but to have her put down, which I cried over a lot. But there was nothing to be done. I still miss her.

I also had a cat that was hit by a car. I buried her on our backyard and put a cross on her grave. I was still young when that incident happened and i remember that i visit her grave every month or every nov. 1. Yep, I still miss her, she was my first cat.

I have had quite few cats I have lost over the years and I still miss them as bad as I did back then.Cats are such personal creatures and when we lose one,it's like losing a human family member.I don't think I will ever forgot them.I always look at their picturs and remember different things that they used to do.

I had two cats at the time I moved. We could only find one when it came time to leave we brought the one but I will always miss the one we had to leave behind. She was a beautiful tiger striped long hair, her name was Princess. Princess was my cat and the other is my husbands. I have since gotten a new cat. I have raised this new one the same as Princess almost from birth but she has a different personality.

Bless your heart. It is terribly painful to lose a pet. My favorite kitty was Shaye. He was a big boy with blue eyes. I now have 5 cats (live on a farm) and I love each of the for the pet that they are. Of course, all kitties are different personalities. You should rescue another kitty soon. Despite thinking it might be too soon, you will find that it will heal your heart. And, Melody would want you to do so. Best of luck!

I lost my Kichu when he was just 6 months old. I got him from one of my relatives' house and he was the only friend I had at that time (we were staying away from home). He used to wait me at the doorstep when I returned from the office and sat close to me when i had my tea, munching chips with me. I had grown so close to him that finally, when it was time for our family to shift back to our native, we planned to take him along with us. We were planning to go by train and I bought a carton to put Kichu in. But he seemed too frightened to be inside that and put up a good fight. Finally, we decided that we 'd take him when we come to take our things in the truck. I left him in the care of my cousin who was leaving close by. But I think he became bored because during the daytime nobody would br there at their house. He was accustomed to having people around all the time. 1 week later, when I was in the office, my cousin called me. She told she had some bad news. Instantly I understood something might have happened to my Kichu. I asked her what it was and he told me that Kichu was crushed by a vehicle. I burst into tears when she told me that he used to run behind her when she went to school. I 've never forgiven myself for not taking him wth us that day.

Please don't blame yourself. As we can all see, sometimes bad things happen...even when we have the best intentions to protect our dear kitties! You had no way of knowing that would happen, and you did what you thought was best and kindest for your Kichu at the time. I hope you'll have another kitty someday!
