do people still care about their neighbors? when the weather gets bad do you see if they need anything? do most people just keep to theirselves?

I often think of this as a reflection of where someone lives. When I was living in the country, we endured a horrible ice storm. My ex and I had two small children during that ordeal and we were without electricity or even running water for 16 days straight. No stores could open either and there was no access to banks to get any money. The neighbors really pulled together and kept tabs on each other. One of the biggest farms on our road had huge generators for their dairy cattle barn and they were able to power their house during the whole outage. They would go to a few houses each day and offer neighbors the use of their home to warm up, have some hot food, offered their showers, everything. I think this is quite typical in a rural community. In urban, or even suburban, settings, people don't always know their neighbors and might be more likely to keep more to themselves. We do check on one of our neighbors, as they are an older couple (in their 70's) and not in the best of health now. We shovel for them when it snows and offer to pick things up from the store and such.
