Time to gender-segregate students and require uniforms

It's easy to see why schools overseas require uniforms of their students, and why, on top of that, schools are divided into all-boys and all-girls. The United States should immediately adopt that format in public schools. If parents and kids do not tow the line, throw them out. No school for these ingrates. Let them rot in some gutter. Let the kids who want to learn -- and go to school in all-boys or all-girls classes and wear uniforms -- stay in schools. It's time to get tough because the world is tough, and time to stop messing around with the gangsters and malcontents. Gender segregation and uniforms. Now. Before the schools are lost forever.

This sounds a bit harsh to me, but maybe it is the answer. It definitely makes some sense. Personally,I believe that poor parenting or lack of parental presence and discipline in their children's lives is the cause of most of the problems we are seeing with the young people today. Parents are trying too hard to be "friends" with their children that they are forgetting the role that they should be playing. Children need guidance and firm discipline. They need rules and curfews. If they get mad at parents or cry, oh well/too bad. They will get over it. I went to a public school, did not wear a uniform, and it was not a segregated school. We respected our teachers and authority. We feared a trip to the principle's office. We feared bringing home a bad report card. We would never have mouthed off to a teacher. This was all because of the basic values that we learned from our parents in our homes. Let's stop blaming society as a whole and put some of the responsibility back on the parents, where it belongs.

i think for all those years of consideration, it is time to tow the line! why spend and waste so much for those who are not worth it? it is best to be focused to those of which the state's efforts are utilized well. there are plenty out there who are good students and responsible citizens yet are unfortunate and dont recieve the attention those brats do.besides the population is growing and resources aren't enough for everyone plus, time is running. those gangsters and malcontents are old enough to choose the life they want, not everyone can consider them at all times, they aren't the only ones alive though. although these uniforms and gender-segregation have their own disadvantes, it has disadvantages as well for the school as one of the institutions in a society. these can help school authorities and administrations to control student behavior and all sorts of deviances.

To me, there are no disadvantages. Either stay in school, uniformed and all, and be satisfied with being in all-boys or all-girls classes, or don't go to school at all and train for common labor, saving us all the trouble. Historically, school has never been automatic or really free, and it certainly remains expensive.

Train up the child in the way you want them to grow up.So if we want more responsible girls and boys we need to be strict with students.Uniforms are a must.

There are disadvantages in sending our children to all-girls or all-boys schools. They would not learn to live in a society where there is a mixture of both sexes. Anyway, there are exclusive schools where those who would like to have the sexes not mixed may go.

I always thought that if your school had uniforms, it would be so easy to ditch class. All you had to do is show up without your uniform. What would you do with the children that don't go to school? House them in dentenion halls? Chances are both parents are working, so they would be home alone. Something tells me it would cost more to expel all the chidren that don't want to go to school than keeping them in.I can see private school going all boy or all girl, but in the public school there would be always a chance ther would be " separate but equal" problems,i.e.I see all the good teachers of science and math teaching at the boy's school instead of the girl's.

just one thing. don't toss learning disabled kids out with the dirt. teachers should determine if a hidden disability is lurking before the student is tossed for behavior reasons, but other than that, good idea.

Yes I agree that the children that want to go to school and attend on a regular basis should be treated a lot better than they are today this is the children that I am talking about here as my children all went to school everyday of school, and in school uniform and if they played up which they did not due to they would also cop it at home for misbehaving. They always wore school uniform and both the teacher and my children always got along together and in fact the teachers when my children had completed primary sfhool, before going into high school the teacher took them out for a treat to thank them for beind the students that they had become and when they went into high school they kept an eye on their grades to see how they were going. So I agree with you completely what you are saying in regards to our children's schooling.

Yes... again I agree with you. I think these days... they mostly have that system in private school in Australia. I think that mixing up girls and boys is just an added distraction in the classroom. That is another thing which was introduced by the baby boomers some 40 years ago under the banner of equality. And the removal of uniform was under the banner of freedom and individuality. Freedom is good... and I am all for it. I reckon that we don't have enough of it. But it should not be given to children. Only responsible adults can handle freedom. And amongst the adults... barely 50 percent are responsible. Which is why freedom is such a dangerous proposition. However... you cannot throw the kids out of school. Because if you do... they will turn into criminals and you will become their victim. There are better ways. It is called discipline. We have to remove those laws which forbide parents and teachers to discipline the children. That is all. Yes... some parents might abuse that right... but they don't have to remove the law about abuse. If the child end up in surgery as a result of abuse... you still can arrest the parents or the teacher. They say that you have to be cruel to be kind. If I was given the choice between my child being free to turn into a delinquent... and my child becoming a law student after being slap around the ears a few times... I know which one I would choose.

I think there would be many less problems if uniforms were required, because no one would be making fun of what someone else was wearing and if the genders were segregated, the students could focus more on their studies instead of worrying about boyfriends and girlfriends- i think that we would have many more successful students if these rules were accepted here in the U.S.
