Do you impulse buy or wait for the item to go on sale?

I tend to wait for items to go on sale. I know that sometimes it is difficult to do so but at the same time.. I've learned from previous experiences that instead of purchasing items that may be rather high in price. It's best just to wait until the item goes on sale because then it makes purchasing the item so much more worth while.. Because of the fact that you know that you are getting a good deal for something that is indeed a lot more expensive than usual.. I know that I think we all love to get items that are on sale.. As it helps us to save on money in the long run.
I know that I usually purchase items that are lower in price compared to higher priced items because.. I find that they end up working just as good. But sometimes when you are able to get brand name items for a sale price it's an even better deal in the long run.
For example of how we waited for an item to go on sale would be.. I know that once we wanted a toaster oven for the longest time.. And me & my other half we're so tempted just to pay the regular price.. But we ended up holding off.. And we found a toaster oven actually on boxing day of last year that was an even better deal.. It was a no name product but it works just as good.. Regular price it was $70.00 so I do believe that we we're getting a good deal by waiting for something such as this to go on sale.. Instead of just going ahead & buying an item that may go on sale later on.. That we may end up regretting later on purchasing.
But we found that some of the brand name products we're on sale but we're still $70.00 & up. And they didn't have half as many accessories compared to the one we had ended up purchasing. The one we have has a timer on it with the numbers. A lot of the others one that we're higher in price didn't even end up having this on them. Which would have been a down fall for us because we like being able to time how long our food has been cooking. Also some of them didn't even have a dish that you could put things on or use to cook with. So that was a down fall to because it's difficult enough to find certain dishes or casserole dishes to fit inside the toaster oven as it is.
Sometimes if I find some of the items that I've wanted to go on sale.. Are still rather pricy. Like you I will go to my local thrift store & look for the item similar to the one I had wanted to go on sale.. And I end up getting a better deal for something that had been used compared to getting something that I had wanted to go on sale in a local or favorite store that I shop at.
I find thrift stores have great deals all of the time.. And I know that due to my experiences that some of the things I had wanted.. I end up finding in great condition at a thrift store, for an even better deal than what I would have paid else where that would have maybe gone on sale next week or even in the near distant future.
In conclusion.. Like you I do indeed wait for sales instead of just buying things impulsively. I find each time that I have purchased something impulsively that I always end up regretting it later on.
I'd much rather get something that is on sale compared to having to purchase something that is regular price. That is much more expensive & puts a dent in mine & my other half's pocket or budget. Sometimes we don't always have the luxury of waiting until things go on sale.. But I know for me that I'd much rather wait until something goes on sale then purchase something that is regular priced. If the thing I want goes on sale & still isn't within my budget.. Like you I will go to my local thrift store & look for some great deals instead! . .
Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

i don't think that its a 50-50 split. according to me and what marketing gurus say that there are certain products to which customers do impulse buying. mostly those with good packaging and display and fast moving goods falls in this category. i wont do impulse purchasing of a car or a washing machines as they are durables and needs lot of information search to buy such products.there are lot of tendencies of people buyng products impulsively when they come across a 'for sale' tag, even if they don't need that actually.

I seem to be shifting from impulse spending into bargain shopping. I find both methods have a downside. Earlier, I frequently regretted paying so much when I saw the item for sale a few days later. Now, the item is seldom there when I go back to see if it has been reduced yet. There never seems to be a happy medium!

im definitely wait for the sale. im a student with no study loan and never working before, just rely on my parents' money. but im really into branded shop as i believe that when i shop during the sale season, im the luckiest person ever!! for example, a girl bought the same MNG dress at higher price than me and we wore that dress and other people might thought that we r a divas.. but guess whut? im a divas with go0d bargain items! i dun mind wheter it was the last season's style or what. other people wont know when did we purchased the clothes right? =p What was your go0d buy? i bought a LBD by Emprio Armani with 90% off! wasnt that amazing? =p

I am the kind of person that buys anything that really attracts my eye, no matter the cost. If I see something I like and love, I buy right away without wasting time. If I see something good and don't really want right away, I wait until it goes on sale

It depends on what the item is. Unfortunately, I do a lot of impulse buying and then I end up regretting it later. The way it always seems to happen is I'll buy an item out of impulse and then the next time I see it it'll be on sale for like $10 less. Lol that's how it always goes. But sometimes I have control, like the other day when I saw a shirt I wanted really bad, but it was $20. So I'm waiting on that one. Although I have to admit I can't stop thinking about it!

I either wait for it to go on sale or if I think it will be gone by then just choose a couple more things from the clearance :) I work at wal-mart so I usually see when things go on sale in time though

I do both.
Although i am more careful then i would give myself credit for and i know when a deals a deal and something isn't right to get.
Normally i either get deals or something's which i really want.
Kudos

I usually wait for sales and I visit local thrift stores to buy new clothes and shoes. Im not the type of person who would spurge a lot of money buying expensive things that I know I can buy at a lower price.
However, there are times that I buy things impulsively.

As money is tight here, and has been for a while, I do not impulse buy. I wait for the item to go on sale. This doesn't mean i have to do without, just that I might not get everything that I want right the minute i want it.
