Moomin - My cat helps keep my sanity, does your pet do the same?

It has been one of those days, I put washing out to dry and it rains. I'm in a hurry to get to the shops and the car won't start. I feel sad, low and down, still feeling rough after a bout of flu, and then Moomin comes in from the garden, jumps onto my lap, purrs and snuggles up with me. I am immediately feeling much better, stroking her fur and listening to her purrs of pleasure. But why is it that cats, and other pets, can lighten your life so much? Do your pets bring you such pleasure?

I think it is a feeling of being loved and wanted. Plus having them as company is nice. My Ashley would watch TV with me when my insomnia is acting up.
She also guards me when I am sick. Just having her around makes my whole day better. Are cats wonderful creations!

My partner is away for a few days, and I am at home alone. Moomin slept next to me last night and is sitting next to the keyboard now keeping me company.

I, too, suffer from insomnia from time to time, hence the fact I am sitting at a keyboard at 6.30 am UK time. Moomin is curled up by my feet keeping me company, while my partner is sound asleep upstairs. Thank you for your comment hun

It's feeling loved..to know something loves you..
Well, lets just say the powers of love are not to be underestimated lol.
My pets don't keep my sanity but Goddess, they can at least keep me anchored to common sense..which has saved me more than once.

Very good point hun, it's the unconditional love they give you that makes it all the more special. Without love the world would be a very cold and lonely place.

Aye, that's very true. I don't know how much of what we all experience would be worth it without it.

My cat's name is Moishe and he does bring me back from the edge sometimes. It's just those days when the family takes me for granted and I feel unappreciated. At night he waits for me to lay down. I always sleep on my left side and he sleeps on my hip. Sometimes he will get up and sit on my pillow and lean over and just lick my nose. I think pets prove God's extreme wisdom. What would we do without them?

LOL - they can do can't they. Once she settles in I'm sure she will be a loving cat too. Sometimes you can't help but laugh at their antics. Thank you for your comments.

My cat used to always love to come up and purr and lick my tears when I was a teen and upset. Now a days my dog seems to cuddle with me more than the cat. But the cat is still there.
I love how it calms me down to sit there with one on my lap and the other beside me. Its like having soft little children who love you no matter what. Although cats will get upset and dogs wont. Other than that, they are both really sweet to me!
Of course my cat is very entertaining. Most recently she enjoys talking pretty much yowling and such in the halls, in her room and stuff. Its pretty darn funny. Arent pets great?

I was so lucky when I was a teenager, I had a cat called Sam who was a constant companion. Listened to my tales of woe and angst, cuddled up and comforted me. I couldn't image my life without a cat. Moomin can be very vocal too, she will happily *chat* with me for hours. Thank you for your comment

I also feel that way. I have a german shepherd and I talk to her all day. I know she doesn't understand what I am saying, but she would know by the tone of my voice whether or not I am in a good humour, sad or even cross. I can tell her anything and I know she won't repeat it. It's always a good feeling to have her with me and I am never lonely as long as she is beside me.

Aw hun your german shepherd sounds gorgeous. It is a real comfort sometimes knowing that your pet is there for you, I know I can tell Moomin anything and I am also never alone when she is with me. Thanks hun, it's good to know others value their pets.

There are many good things about our
furry friends. It's a good thing that
they don't speak our langauge though.

Yes, animals never judge you for your looks, your beliefs, your feelings and attitude, aren't they wonderful, they just give you unconditional love and affection

Yes, they do. It's no accident that they use pets in all types of therapy for the mind and body.

Moomin is sat right next to the keyboard at the moment, head butting me and purring. I guess she really is good therapy, thanks for your comments

Oh definately I have two cats and when I'm upset my eldest one seems to know and will jump onto your lap for a cuddle (the only time he does!) Most of us love our animals as if they were another member of the family and because our pets can't talk we find it more pleasing when they show their love just by sitting on your lap! Hope you feel alot better now!

Moomin is a very affectionate cat, and quite vocal too. Although she isn't much for lap sitting, she will happily sit beside me and cuddle, waiting for her tummy to be tickled, and can definitely cheer me up.
I feel a lot better now, especially as I managed to get my washing dry :-)

You make me think of my cat. He was killed about 3 months ago. I miss him so bad. I think the reason animals do make you feel that way is, Because thay love and accept you unconditional just the way you are. They are there to hear you problems and wont gossip to no one else. An animal is the best friend you can have. Alot of people take animals for granted and dont relize what a treasure they have.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. It is like losing a member of the family when this happens and the grieving is no less. You must treasure your memories, they are priceless to you. Animals who love us are so special.

We adopted a Cat last October as part of Pet Therapy for me, as I have Depression, and my partner works some incredibly long hours some days.
She was to be a companion for me, but she's become so much more. She's my friend, my confidante, my silly girl and she never fails to make me laugh. She falls off the top of the television, she runs into the glass doors trying to get at the squirrels outside and she meows like crazy when she sees the milk jug being taken out of the fridge.
I cannot imagine my life without her. She's my darling little girl and my best friend.

I am a great believer in pet therapy, and I have also, in the past, suffered from depression. Your cat sounds absolutely wonderful, and so like mine. A friend of mine was recently disgnosed with chronic depression and I did recommend to her that she get a cat, they never fail to bring a smile to your face. ( hugs ) and thanks for your comments

I have several cats and they all bring me a great deal of sanity when I am truly fed up with life in general. They bring me so much joy and ask for so little in return unlike the humans in my life sometimes !!!
