The pharmacist doesn't always tell you!
I didn't even think about it when I was taking an antibiotic... the present I received for that will be 5 in 3 days :) But we had actually been just talking about getting off bc to get pregnant, so we were elated!
Use backup even after you get off the antibiotic, I don't remember how long it takes for the pill to become effective when you first start taking it (a week or a month... I've been on too many forms of bc!) but use protection for that long after you are off the antibiotic.

Antibiotics lessen the effectiveness of bc pills and other medications as well.

I've heard that all antibiotics cause birth control to not work properly, anytime I've been put on an antibiotic my doctor has warned me that birth control pills wouldn't work properly. Every time you are perscribed an antibiotic your doctor should be informing you of these things and if he/she doesn't say anything, it wouldn't hurt to ask him/he to be safe.

Not all antibiotics affect contraception pills. If you have an episode of diarrea or sickness, that can affect it. The best advice is to call your pharmacy and tell them which anti biotic you are taking and which contraceptive pill and they will be able to tell you if you need to use extra precautions whilst on the medication.
