You can trust me in your bathroom- can I trust you in mine?

When I go into someone else's bathroom, I never look in their medicine cabinet or snoop through their stuff. I'm afraid I will find out things that I don't want to know. But some people say they figure anything in there is fair game. Do you like to rummage in other people's stuff? Or do you respect their privacy.

I'll never understand the rudeness of some people. I don't look through people's stuff, whether it's in their bathroom or anywhere else, unless I have their permission. I even turn my eyes away from mail, papers that look personal, etc., when its sitting out in the open unless I happen to see it accidently. If people have interesting things out in the open, like cute knick-knacks, books, videos/DVDs in shelves, etc., I'll look at stuff like that. But I never go snooping through their things because I wouldn't want them snooping through my stuff. And frankly, I'm not interested in what's in someone's medicine cabinet. Why should I or anyone else care what they have in there?

You and I sure think alike.

Now I know I need to keep all my confidential stuff out in the open. That's what Sherlock Holmes said was the best way to hide something anyway.

I respect people's privacy. I am there to do my business and get out, not to be nosey. As for my bathroom. I don't invite people into my home, because that's my haven. When I want to see people, I invite them to join me for coffee at the cafe. If someone invites me to their house, I usually bring something.

You must have some really close friends! I can relate to that.

I don't keep any medicine in the bathroom. Don't think they'll get any dirt on me from the shampoo brand I use :) And no, I don't look through other people's things. It's tempting, just to know what kind of things they have and where they keep them, but no. Privacy in general is important to me. But most people I know don't really care about other people's privacy.

One time I was at a new person's house and he got a phone call, so I took that opportunity to excuse myself to the bathroom. I don't usually take long, but I found I had a big smudge on my face that was hard to fix. After a few minutes I thought he will either think I am being really quiet so I can listen in on his phone call, or that I am going through the cabinets. But I guess that was just my own paranoia.

Or is it? Sometimes, people are just as paranoid as we are! When you realized this, did you start making noise, so they wouldn't think you were listening in on their conversation?

If I had done that I wouldn't have been able to hear the conversation. So I just finished quietly rummaging through the cabinets and left.

yes you can trust me in your bathroom. I hate it when people go through your things. I have a sister in law who use to go through my thing and my bathroom looking for pills and it use to kill me when she would show up. We use to go and hide our things just because of her.

People who go through someone else's cabinets have mental issues beyond what can be helped through a forum. Although if there is no toilet paper id say under the sink is an acceptable spot to glance

Oh, sure! I would look for toilet paper if I didn't see any. That's necessity, not snooping.

I respect others privacy in their homes, to do otherwise would be terribly rude and very nosy! I've had people do that at my house and I think it says a lot about the person who does this. Unless they're bleeding all over the place and looking for a bandaid, there's no good reason for someone to do this!

Well, so far everyone has said they don't snoop, but they might know somebody who does. So, watch out!

I've never even been tempted. I don't get that whole thing. It's not so much that I respect others' privacy as it is I'm just not interested!

Since you mentioned Seinfeld in another discussion I will bring it up here. Do you remember an episode where he was looking at a tube of ointment he thought belonged to his date but it was for her cat? That is a good example of the kind of thing you don't want to find.

Thank you very much! I have been discouraged with Mylot lately, because people are not reading my discussions and the majority don't seem to check back and answer replies. It's hard to get a real discussion going. Also my computer is very slow and sometimes it might take an hour to post a response, so I don't read and write as much as I would like.

The only thing weird I have in my medicine cabinet is nine boxes of bandaids. And yet I can never find the size I want. Thanks for your response. I was just thinking of writing a discussion about the fact that I get views on my profile, but they don't respond to any of the discussions. And I think I have a little something for everyone here.

I've never really even thought about that. It wouldn't bother me if someone were to look through my medicine cabinet in my bathroom, though. All they would find would be razors, shaving cream, q-tips, toothpaste, deodorant and ponytail holders. Maybe a hairbrush or two if they weren't out in the other cabinet. We keep all of our medicine and stuff lined up on top of the refrigerator. So I guess anyone that wants to, can look at it there. :) I've never gone through a person's medicine cabinet without permission. Except for people that I was extremely close to. Like at my parents' house or my sister's I will. I've lived with both of them, though and know where stuff is kept so I'm looking for something specific (like bandaids or tylenol) and I know that they won't mind. When I was in high school I did at my best friend's house, too, but no one in her family minded because I practically lived there. And some of the stuff up there was mine anyway. :) But if I was somewhere where I didn't know how private they were, I wouldn't go through their stuff. Even at the houses I mentioned previously, I would only be messing with their stuff if I was looking for something specific that I needed. Anywhere else, I would ask for a bandaid or whatever I needed.

I wouldn't have thought of it either, but I heard someone say she always looked at stuff in bathroom cabinets and her friend agreed with her. But according to my highly unscientific survey here, they must be unusual.

I don't snoop through peoples things in there bathroom but I will admit to one thing. You know how some poeple have nice little ornamental displays of soaps and body lotions and the like that aren't generally meant to be used. I will use them and smell them and stuff and it certainly isn't necessity for me to as there is a soap on the sink but I just always like to use the nice one. But i don't think thats bad because they leave them out to be appreciated and thats what im doing. lol. other than that I dont think i have ever snooped in anyones bathroom ever.

Oh. You're the one! I guess if you didn't use the little rose shaped soap, it would sit there forever. Some people have only ornamental things and the towels look so fancy you don't know where to dry your hands.

I like to have some nice towels AND some ragged ones so they have a choice. Also, I don't empty the waste paper basket, so they know that's what it is, and it is OK to throw some trash in there. I can't remember who it was, but years ago I heard a celebrity telling about getting ready for a party at her house. She wrote a note to her husband and pinned it on the guest towels saying. "If you use these towels I will kill you." After the party, she realized she had never removed the note and nobody had used the towels.

Lol I think its funny hwen you go in someones house like that and your a bit freaked out to touch anything or mess anything up. I try and make th effort by folding the loo paper and layering nice towels when people come round but they know i dont normally live like that so they are free to touch.
