Caffeine Consumption

Do you consume caffeine? Do you have problems with it? I don't ever drink coffee because I can't stand the taste of it. However, I do drink several diet sodas a day. I like it because it elevates my mood, but it also seems to make me more anxious. It's hard for me to be sure if the anxiety is caused by the caffeine, or if it's caused by things like job stress. When I am not at work, I can drink the same amount of caffeine as I do when I am at work and not feel anxious. However, I think the caffeine may be exacerbating the stress I sometimes feel on the job. I should probably at least cut down my caffeine consumption, even though I don't have any at dinner or anything. Bummer.

I think you are right - that the caffeine exacerbates the stress - in turn making you more anxious. I can think of a host of reasons why you should consider less consumption of diet soda - and the caffeine is the least of them. This carbonated beverage is really hard on your kidneys. The sugar-free is all chemical - none of which is good for you. The research supports that diet soda doesn't promote weight loss but actually hinders it. Water is the best possible beverage you can drink. If you drink 8 to 10 glasses of water per day - I think you will notice you don't have the desire or the room for diet soda! ;p

Actually, I already drink a whole lot of water--probably at least 8 glasses a day! I'm always thristy due to medications and allergies drying out my throat. But yeah, water is the best thing to drink. I've heard that about diet soda not promoting weight loss, but it doesn't make any sense to me. I consume a lot fewer calories than I did when I drank regular, so I don't see how that could hinder weight loss. I can see where it would make you bloated if you didn't drink enough water, though, so there is that. Also, you're right that it's unhealthy in lots of ways :-).

I rarely consume caffeine. I don't drink sodas and when I drink coffee, it's decaf 99% of the time. I might have a cup of green tea, which has some caffeine, once a week. I just feel better when I don't consume caffeine or sugars...they make me anxious.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I have decreased my caffeine intake somewhat and that seems to help with anxiety. I wish I didn't like soda so much.
