I must thank Megs85 for the inspiration on this as I've just wished her good luck and fingers crossed for the interview she has this afternoon! Does anyone know where the saying and the actions 'fingers crossed' comes from? Is it religious? Something to do with Jesus on the cross? All answers welcome!

If my memory's right, I read once that back when christians were being persecuted (waaaay long ago..I can't remember the dates)..they would cross their fingers instead of crossing themselves, so that someone looking at them couldn't tell what the heck they were doing..over time it morphed into a thing people did for good luck, instead of what they'd do to silently pray.
If my memory's right anyway.
