If you had the chance to name a street, would you name it after yourself or what else would you choose for the name? Feel free to be as creative as you wish! ^_^
I was just reading a news story about a Hungarian village who is offering the chance for people to have streets named after them for cash. The guarantee is that the name of the street will not be altered for at least 300 years.
The catch, however, is that the streets cannot be named after anyone who is currently living. The buyer will have to live with the satisfaction of knowing that the street will be re-named posthumously.
You can read the story here:

Feel free to answer my question at the top of this topic, or just talk about the news story in general if you wish! ^_^

I would name it Gods street and then put churches all over the street.I would also make a street called charity and make it for people to have homes who are homeless.

I would name it my shop name just because a lot of people find it unique and I like that name anyway. It comes from an old song I really love and everytime I mentioned the shop name, people remember that song too. My website is in my profile and there you will see my shop name.

Like the other poster, I would name it after my father who passed away exactly a year ago this coming Monday. He was a very popular man and very much loved by people around the world, though he was not famous. The Kiwanis Club is giving a one-time university scholarship in my father's name this coming June. I think there is no one more deserving of having a street named after him than my father. Perhaps they can name his street after him as it is small (8 houses) and the current name gets confused with another street as well as the words written in the wrong order. Just name it after my Dad! :)

This is a great way to raise money for the village. Very creative. More towns should consider doing it. Personally, I wouldn't want a street named after me. It's not that I wouldn't want it, exactly. It's more that it wouldn't mean anything to me. I don't believe in the concept of immortality, and in 50 years no one would even know who the street was named after. If I had to name a street, I would have to give some thought to it and name it after a cause or a place that is special to me. Do you remember the contest that one of the car companies had where people submitted street names? The winner of the contest named his street "Psycho Path". Now that's clever, but I don't know if I could live there.

Well this would be very interesting. A chance to leave a little something of yourself for postarity.
There are some names that would be pretty wild if used as a street name I would think.
If ever there were a time to be creative this would be it.
However I once ask my creative side what it could do and I never got an answer.
So I guess I am on my own. I think for me it would have to be "JBrooks Ave".
Yep...you see what I mean?By the way....what would yours be? Hmmmmmmm!

I would name all streets after the city name and follow by the number starting from North to South. (Just like you have the name and Exit # for Interstate) Doing that way, I can know where exactly the address is. When I look at the address, I cant really tell how far from one address to another address. The name of streets wouldnt help anything.
All I knew is if those addresses are in the same city or not.

This is a good question, and I am unsure as to whether I would prefer to name it after myself or maybe something that is special to me.
The statement about not being named after a living person would be difficult for them to impose. There are probably people around today with the same names as many famous people from history, so all you would need to do is trace a deceased person who shares your name.

If I had the chance to name a street I think that I would call it a different name not after myself or anything like that. But probably after someone in the family that meant a lot to me. We do already have some of the family members names on some of our streets.

This acturally happened in our community. The 911 office wanted a better way to find homes when they needed to. So the entire county was renamed. The first peron from each street, who came to get their new address from the office, got to name the street. My best friend named their street after her father and it became the legal name. I loved this new way of nameing the streets. We still have our old name but a different number as we live on a major street so the name was not changed.

This is weird as about 3 hours ago I was thinking of how my city does not honour its famous or hard-working members by naming more of the rapidly growing city after them. Here in Nanaimo, our mayor was known as BlackPirate Frank Ney because he would dress in his pirate suite and entertain the locals and visitors during te bathtub races and before that donate his time and money to a swin from Nanaimo habour to Protection Ilsnad and giving certificates ,a coin and free icecream to those who made (and thos ewho didn't still got the ice cream).Even when he was not Mayor he would continue to entertain the people. He is sorely missed as he was a greast supporter of the functions happening in our area for all ages.

the street would be based on the area and the purpose. Of course the one in and around all my estates would be named by by name with a tag that will make me a brand..hahaha..else other wise it would be named as say: champa gali" for a redlight area. or a heaven and stars for a kindergarten school area...similarly.... i have a lot of names but u see there might be censorships..haha

Anything is changed to a commodity these days. So these Hungarian villagers decided to sell out right to name their streets for money. But what is the relevance of having your name to a street in some remote village of a foreign land? Who knows you there? What is your significance there? It is totally absurd to have your name to some village where you are a mere unknown.
If I am entrusted with naming a street however, I will propose the name 'prosperity road' wishing prosperity to the dwellers of the village.
