If by sacrificing your life, you could contribute so much to the world that you would be honored in all nations, would you be willing to do so?

In a word... "No". I was given my life to learn lessons from it. When my time is up, I will know and I will be pointed in the direction of the Otherworld, to await my time for being reborn. There is no way I would sacrifice the gift of life before my time, for anybody or anything.
That might sound selfish to you, but surrendering your life? Surely that is more selfish, for whatever reason?
