for about three months now I have been using Yahoo voip. I was offered it when I signed up for the yahoo Instant messaging. The price is extreemly low with Yahoo. If you have been thinking of checking into it, I recommend it. I have had such good success with it that I have shut off my land line service. The only draw backs I have incountered is you do have to have your computer on all the time to use it so it did not work well with my laptop that tends to go into sleep mode. But, it has been great on the PC. They have two separtate charges, one for incoming calls and one for outgoing calls but for both services I don't pay $5.00 a month. I plug in a microphone and sign into yahoo and my phone is ready to use. Has anyone else used the new Voip from any other companies or have any comments on the use of it?

The only type of "computer phone" I have used is Skype. It was great, I could call anywhere, anytime for free. January 1st of this year though they started charging so I stopped using it. I already have a land-line phone and cell phone so I think I have enough phones lol.

LOL! skype sucked when they started charging! what a bunch of rip offs! they should not be asking their users to pay since VoIP is a new technology which has a lot of problems and flaws.

I so wish I could cancel our landline phone service and everything associated with them! It's a small rinky dinky company, and frankly I'm surprised they even have dsl, even though it's a slower speed, but knock on wood, better then nothing. But, since we're so far out in redneck land, we have to have satellite, no cable company either, and I do believe those companies go through the cable lines correct? So, not an option for us at this time, but I'll tell you, the minute it is, we are getting it, just to be done with the BS phone company :)

What is VoIP? VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and is also alternatively known as Internet Telephony. VoIP allows you to make phone calls over your ISP (Internet Service Provider) connection, instead of your phone company, by sending voice (data) over the internet. How does VoIP work? Current telephone system relies on reliable but inefficient method for connecting calls called ‘Circuit’ Switching. When a call is made between two persons, a ‘circuit’ is established and the connection is maintained for the entire duration of the call with a dedicated wire connection between two persons. A long distance call costs high, because of the copper wire that connects all the way from one point to another. Request you to go through this article to know more about voip. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/158286/what_is_voip_.html
