I just got done reading 4 pages of a discussion concerning Barack Obama, and I am amazed at the fact that people that do not live in the US are more educated on our presidential hopefuls than the majority of American citizens seem to be! OBAMA IS NOT MUSLIM!! Are we really going to hold it against this guy that he was fortunate enough in his youth to be exposed to various cultures? Let's really do research before we start slamming somebody. I even read that someone would vote for Hillary just "to get Bill back". What?!? Then I read that at least when Bill was in office at least we weren't at war..can you say Kosovo? I am not a Republican and Obama does have my support. Why? Because as a citizen of Illinois I saw firsthand the change he can help bring about. Educational reforms, healthcare for every child, etc..etc.. I really get peeved when I hear people say they will vote for Hllary because she is a woman, and America needs a woman in office. Are we so self centered to think that America's needs are the only thing at stake here? How much respect do women get in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran..? Are these countries truly going to take her seriously? Plus, she has accepted an endorsement from a politician who claims Obama would drag us down because "he's Black." All while whining because Obama is getting support from people who used to donate obscene amounts of money to her husband. That in itself says alot about character. She can't say she made a mistake by voting for the war in Iraq, she blames it on Bush. She voted to give him the authority!! What happened to all her work while her hubby was in office on universal healthcare? Oh! That's right, she got mixed up in the Whitewater scandal and it fell by the wayside. Hmmmm... I'm sorry, I guess I've ranted enough..I just want to say we've had a Bush or a Clinton in office since the 80's..it's time for a change.

Hello. Well, I'm the one who said I would vote for Hillary to get Bill back. I could explain what I meant, but obviously you are too worked up to see anyone else's point of view. The only other thing I'm going to address is that it's not known one way or the other if Obama is muslim. Where is your proof? I can prove he has ties to it, can you show me where he has made a statement that he is not muslim? Don't perpetuate what you are complaining about.

If you want to take me on for any of the statements I've made..... here I am. If you're going to refer to people in posts so that they know who they are, be prepared to be called out.

Thank you! That's my point! Since we can't prove he is or isn't muslim, people like the OP should quit bashing other people over it, wouldn't you agree?

Well, I did take offense to the poster's tone. So what if I want Bill back? That's not her place to criticize what I believe, or what anyone else on this board believes. As I said, I apologize if I was rude to you, I am just very offended by soccermom's post.

i just read that obama has launched a counter-attack against rumours that he is a muslim. he calls it 'a "climate of smear", intended to scupper his run for the whitehouse.' he says 'when i was six, i attened a n indonesian public school where a bunch of the kids were muslim, becasue the country is 90% muslim.' ooo what a naughty boy :D it's a big link and i can't copy and paste so if you wanna see it go to www.guardian.co.uk and search for obama muslim or soemthing. (it is a reputable newspaper, not a tabloid)

There are plenty of countries that have women in the lead role. They don't seem to have this problem that you speak of with middle eastern countries but come on.... what you are saying is that since there are a HANDFUL of countries that don't respect women that means you would cater to them? Seriously. Although we have a government and all we still have a QUEEN here as does a few other countries. There is a female president in Phillipines and a female Chacellor in Germany! Hello, come on now. You want progress but you still seem resigned to keep it the way it is and has been for the sake of a few countries that wouldn't like this. You can't please everyone so always please yourself.... you follow? Now I hear you that you have several things mentioned in your post but that is the only point I wanted to comment on as I am not American. I just think you shouldn't put women or their abilities down. You said you want change.

I understand your statements but I respectfully disagree for a few reasons. Whether you liked him or not, Clinton was well liked by many in the international community. Of course he wasn't perfect, but had a good rapport with many countries that now despise the US. Don't you think that maybe Hillary could bring some countries back around? I think you are taking the gender so seriously. Anyway the middle east is going to hate US no matter who is in office. It has always held the position that the US is the devil and another male president is certainly not going to change their minds. By the way, there are several other countries that do have to deal with the middle east and while it isn't all with troops certainly other countries have troops there. There are Dutch troops there!

Don't get me wrong, I loved Bill CLinton! And I think the work he is doing now with Bush Sr. is wonderful. You're right, maybe I do need to get off the "she's a woman" bandwagon. However that is not my main focus of disliking her. I had a boss who told me once that perception is reality, and the perception would be that all we've had in this country for decades is either a Clinton or Bush administation. That's where I'd like to see change.

Sirens, I know alot of countries with women in the lead role don't have problems. But I don't see 100,000 plus of their troops in Iraq either. And the majority of the US problems with foreign policy stem from our position in the Middle East. I guess I'm saying why aggrevate it? I am all for the power of women, after all I am a woman myself, I'm just saying that given the situation I don't think now is the right time for Hillary.

i hate to sound condescending or patronising, but i just think it's a shame that you guys have already made up your minds about him. 'once a muslim, always a muslim' was a headline that shocked me. that sounds like they're saying 'once a murderer always a murderer, makes obama sound like a criminal. america's one of the most culturally diverse countries, yet muslims are apparently the scum of the earth to them at the moment. i just feel bad for you guys, i don't know what it is but obviously something has conditioned you to reject every single muslim on this planet. not all muslims are bad people, taught to bring down and reject western civilisation. im sure he wouldnt want to be president if he rejected western values.

How about not including all americans in those that are dumb enough to think Obama is a muslim or that all muslims are terrorists? There is a line between being wary of Islamists and their ideology and thinking all Muslims should be lynched, and since I live in America, I can tell you that neither the former or the latter are popular belief right now.

lynched? who said lynched? well then that's good, then no one should have any reason to reject him based on his religion

haha yehh am really sorry for the generalisation! i know so many don't think that all muslis are terroirsts. not that's he's muslim anyway, which is the funny thing. i was thinking too, i thought the whole war was about trying to preach peace, and getting rid of terrorists and haters. not about trying to get rid of muslims.

I'm not an American but this discussion leads me to a post I saw on someone blog where they said that they wouldn't vote for Obama because he smokes. I sat there with my jaw hanging open and thinking what the hell? Why on earth would the fact that he smokes be a reason not to vote for him? Moreover, he is trying to quit! I thought that the presidential election was about people voting for the one they think has the qualities and ideals to carry the country forward. This time, it seems things are going just too far.

At first I thought this Presidential election was starting way too soon. But now I'm glad it has started early. That way all these untruths and myths will be resolved before we actually go to the voting booth. Just remember this. The election won't be held until November, 2008. So any lies, untruths, and myths regarding Obama will be refuted by then. Lloyd

Very good point!I saw Joe Biden on Bill Maher last night and the guy is a little "out there" but he had some good ideas too. I guess they all do, too bad we couldn't roll them into one Supercandidate! LOL

very true and points taken and noted. i like hilary. i think she gets a bad rep, but i also like obama. i actually think they both could help our country in a lot of ways. i am mainly for obama b/c i think he is more interested in fixing the US' problems and then focusing on foreign affairs. i have thought that our froeign policy has gotten us into trouble for many, many years and i think we need a rebuilding time. hopefully, obama will be that person to help ignite our home interests and our "rebuilding" period. take care
