This discussions is for Linux users or users who have tried Linux (windows users may not understand what I am talking about). A recent controversial remark of Linus about gnome is one of the hot topics around the Linux world.
Not sure what I am talking about? Then check out this link - http://www.osnews.com/story.php/17298/Linus-Fires-Latest-Shot-in-GNOME-Wars. I personally prefer KDE over gnome and from many surveys it is found out that KDE got more users than gnome. But i don't think Linus should have made such a remark. Let the user decide which desktop they need to choose. What do you feel?

I prefer KDE over gnome too. I tried Gnome back in 2001 and it was OK, maybe still comparable to KDE at that time. Since then, KDE has improved a great deal. KDE4 is around the corner now and it is going to be much faster than the older versions as it is based on Qt5.

Thanks Spiderman for your response. KDE is the preferred desktop environment for me too. GNOME seems to be too simple and not too customizable like KDE. To be honest I don't like GTK widgets, and Gnome is based on GTK. I hope KDE4 is sure going to make waves on the desktop market. Spiderman I would like to point out one error in your response. Please note that KDE4 is based on QT4 but on QT5. There is no QT 5 released yet.

I don't prefer Gnome or KDE. I prefer LXDE. A lightweight desktop. I prefer my things to be fast. I also find LXDE a lot easier to customize.

I'm more confortable with the GNOME system than the KDE system. I use Ubuntu, Debian and Bayanihan Linux Distros

well I prefer Gnome over kde but the thing is that if you are objective the KDE itself looks more similar to windows desktop so is easier for windows user to make the transition to linux if the Xwindow enviroment is similar to something they already know. specially with the KDE 4 that is a mix between vista and mac os desktop

My Vote is for KDE, I know that KDE uses more resources than GNOME but the Interface and the applications that come with KDE make it a very good choice over Gnome and a nice visual experience over GNOME.
One more thing,Aren't the computers these days come equipped to handle the resources required by KDE pretty easily.
