This is unbelievable! Can you imagine chimps becoming as evolved as us? It's kind of scary because you automatically think the worse...but who knows, anything could happen. Chimps using spears to hunt!!! Check it out at this link... http://news.aol.com/topnews/articles/_a/chimps-make-weapons-to-hunt-scientists/20070222203809990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001 It's very interesting...atleast to me:-) What do you think? Isn't it amazing?!?

I had heard of primates killing other creatures for the meat before and thought it strange as I like to think they eat fruit and leaves. The potential for violence is quite scary, very clever but scary just the same. shows what a little way we have come really. Glad I'm not a bush baby.

I think its a marsupial, its a small round brwon animal with big eyes and a fluggy tail - they-re quite sweet and according to this story make a good dinner, sad.

Why is it scary? Surely its obvious that somewhere down the line the developed tools. Otherwise we never would have started using them.

It's scary because it is 'change'. Can you imagine going to work with a chimp? Or seeing one in the grocery?? I mean, if we can evolve that much and we share over 98% of our DNA with chimps then it's bound to happen sooner or later...and it's kind of freaky. What if they evolve and take over the world? lol

that is interesting & scary. I think I would be scared they may become ravid or something & come after a human with the spear.

I haven't looked up the story, but chimps are not as dumb as most think they are. wow, making weapons to hunt...interesting.

Couldn't get a link to the site, but I can tell you I lived in a beach front condo for about a year, here in Thailand, and the monkeys were a real problem. If they got into your room they would tear it apart, and take all the contents out of the refrigerator and eat them. If you tried to stop them they would become very agressive. Fortunately this only happened for a short time each year.

Well, it is a proven fact that evolution and adaptation are real, even if people don't want to admit to it. This group of chimps just needed to adapt to a new environment. There is a species of birds on the Galapagos Islands that uses thorns to spear its prey. I really don't see much of a difference. Could it lead to a new form of humanoid? Maybe, but none of us will be around to see it. Still kinda cool, though.

I just hope they don't get too much like us and start developing weapons of mass destruction, starting wars, and making bad music videos. Could you imagine how obnoxious they would be at the "Chammy Awards"? lol Lloyd

I think that it's fascinating! I used to read books about studies of chimps and other animals in the wild. I absolutely love hearing about chimps in particular, because they are the closest thing to us humans here on the planet, whether you believe in evolution or not. I mean, they can be taught sign language, and they are easily as intelligent as a young human child! I think that it's really cool that they're learning how to use tools to help them hunt. I'm not scared by it at all. Evolution is a good thing, as far as I'm concerned, lol!

Doesnt really surprise me since ive seen many intelligent things that chimps have done on television. The first time i saw something about chimps surprised me though. I was watching this animal program and it showed a chimp pressing on numbers, it was a test to see how fast a chimps reaction time is. The chimp ended up having like 2 times the speed of a human and better accuracy.
