some gum chewers aren't descreet in where they discard the used gum. i've sat on used gum, and stepped on it too. it's an unsanitary, unpleasant experience.

This is the craziest thing I have ever heard. Banning chewing gum? Huh?! Did one of Singapores leaders wake up one day and his toddler had gotten it all stuck in her hair and it took him forever to get it out and he was late for an important meeting so he was like "heck with this! Chewing gum is banned!" LOL Okay, maybe not so funny, I just wanna know why they banned it.

There is an interesting story why chewing gum was banned in Singapore. One fine day some gentleman stuck his chewing gum on the doorway of a metro train. So the doors wouldn't close...meaning the train wouldnt run. Since one of the trains had stopped and it is a tube we are considering, no trains could run.
The whole "nation" came to a standstill for a couple of hours. The economic losses faced were plenty.
So the government, wisely or not, thought that banning chewing gum was far easier than inculcating inthe whole country some civic sense. So chewing gum was banned!!!
