On my Mom's side, from Sweden. On my Dad's side, from England and Scotland. I've never visited any of those countries yet, but my sister, daughter and cousin have all been to Sweden and plan to return next year. They loved it and loved meeting our relatives over there.

My parents and grandparents were english, but I have no idea how far back the lineage goes.
I consider myself to be an Englishman, but there is no such thing as a pure Englishman. The country was originally populated by the Celts who migrated from mainland Europe. Then we had the Roman occupation for about 550 years, followed by the Anglo Sazons and then the Vikings. All these people settled here and interbred. Along with the many other immigrations over the centuries it becomes difficult to trace back a true heritage.
It is easier for someone from your country due to the relatively short history, and the majority of white americans could trace their lineage back to a European source.

Asylum, you are so right about tracing our lineage back to a European source.

From what I know, on my British-Canadian mother's side, I have lowland Scottish, Scots-Irish, and English blood, and on my British-Australian father's side, I have English blood alone, and possibly also some Danish. My name comes from my Danish grandfather.

I just started my family tree last year. My father side is from Hungary and Holland. My Mom's side is Polish and Pennsylvania Dutch. I still have a ton of work to do. No one really has worked on the tree. We are located in a few trees posted on the net, but the information is incorrect.

Some on my mom's side of the family tree is incorrect, but my cousin refuses to change it. I don't understand what's wrong with letting others know that both your husband and your father were married twice. LOL. She sure included all four of my sister's husbands and both of mine.

On my Dad's side I have the Italian connection whilst my mother's is English. However all my grandparents, except for my maternal grandmother, were born here in Australia and as she was an orphan we don't know that much. I have never met any of my other relations from either side, except for the ones who live here in Australia of course.

I agree, Hush...and we still need to find out how we got related on your Mom's side and my Dad's side. I'm sure it would be interesting to find out. I have absolutely no doubt we're actually related, even though we do joke about it.

I have been told that on my fathers side that my ancestors came over on the Mayflower. That member of the family has the only bible that came over with them. I also have Native American ancestors, On my mothers side it was German. rumor has a German princess running away with her footman. One great grandfather came from Canada. But nothing is known about his background.

I'm a mutt also. I know my mothers side of the family has a lot of Irish. My fathers side has English and American Indian. There's other stuff mixed in there too, I'm sure, but that's the main stuff I know.

Most of my ancestors came from Ireland although from what we've been able to tell they were from England before that. I do have some Dutch in me as well from my father's side. I would love to visit the British Isles and really dig into the family geneology but for now just trying to piece it together via the internet.

Basically Sweden on my mom's side and Ireland on my dad's. But my brother and 2 uncles (one from each side of the family) have done extensive work mapping our family tree and each time they update it I learn about another country. Seems we also had ancestors in Holland, Scotland, England, Germany, France and Canada. And if you go down a couple of generations to my great, great nieces and nephews (my nieces and nephews and their kids and grandkids) you can add Panama, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, China, Africa, Greece and several Native American nations. I think if you threw in some Polar Bear and Penguin we would be a truly global family.

Wow! If I hadn't given out a best response already, it would have been yours. I have 2 cousins who are working on the family tree on my mom's side, along with a cousin in Sweden. It's really very interesting to see where people have ended up after 300 years. Now if I could just get someone on my dad's side to get interested in this, it would be great. I'd love to know how the Nixon family got to Florida, California and Canada from the UK.
