I was watching television the other day and they had actual footage of these huge rats in this Tacobell/KFC restaurant in Greenwich Village...
My thought is how could people even work under those kind of conditions less no serve people. I couldn't do it...
They say that the invasion began a little after midnight, while the restaurant was closed, creating a public relations nightmare for Taco Bell just two months an E. Coil outbreak at the chain...that's scary alone...
One employee got fired because he complained about the sanitary conditions at the eatery. He worked at Taco Bell..
I found a site with the actual video footage so you could take a peak...

I wonder what the people who eat there are thinking now? Please share your thoughts? Has something like this happened in your area? Had you heard about this on the news?

I just watched the feature, and I have to tell you, that is just terrible and gross. I hardly eat at fast food restraunts, the main one that my hubby and I go to, is In and Out, because they do everything in front of us, and infront of the windows facing the streets, so we know that it is clean and fresh. However, I have heard many things about Taco Bell, I just can't believe that they have actually been able to get the rats live, on the TV cameras, that is amazing, and will get many more people to believe it, because they have actually seen it, for a change. So many people think that it does not exist, because they never see the evidence of uncleanliness and unsanitary conditions, but it is apparent now. Thanks for sharing, will share myself.

I love carry outs myself. I tend to eat there when I can. I will admit, I do love me some Wendy's but this whole rat thing just really gets to me as far as eating at fast food restaurants...
I figured this post would be good to show people, just because it is a known establishment, don't always means the cleanliness is up to par....
Thank you for responding..

Your welcome...and your right, when I was working in food services, I did not eat junk food for a long time, because you become grossed out by it. Then, after I got my managers on the right track (cleaning not only when the inspectors come), that is when I started eateing a bit. However, as you know, I do not eat out a lot, but this is going to lessen it even more. I told my sis, who loves junk food, and she is probably going to eat out less, lol.

Ohh very much so...I rather cook or go to a friends house, even someone who cooks food right in front of my face...It does make you pay closer attention to your food now that's for sure..lol

Oh my God! That is so disgusting and I hope that one place is closed down for good! The guy that was fired could probably win a lawsuit against them for unlawful firing. If the condition was true then they had nothing to stand on for firing him.
I would be very upset if I had eaten there before. It would literally make me sick knowing the conditions there.

I do too and I hope it's a wake up call to the many other restaurants that know they need to clean their establishment or they too will be on tv. It truly is sad story and makes us think as well. Be more observant where we eat...thank you for responding

people would be quite shaocked if they ever really aw what was going on in their favorite places to eat sometimes ...not all of them but some ...the restaurant should always a inspection notice in plain view somwhere in the establishment so think about reading in before you eat there ...you might change you mind ...
the local news here does a special everynight about local restaurants and sometimes you are suprised by the resuls ..they will follow a story about an establishment if they are below average score so you can find out if the restaurant has cleaned up or not ... they also show the ones with very high scores too ..so it gives you a great idea of where to eat and not to eat ... I think its a great service for the surrounding community to know these things ...

That's very true, It's helpful for people to see that not only it happens in this establishment, it can happen at any place, at the very places we enjoy eating...It's just that it didn't make headlines like this restaurant did

That is so disgusting. That employee was right for complaining, it's really unfair to get fired over it too. I wouldn't work in an environment like that, it's disgusting, and wrong to continue to serve food to people with all that going on because everything is so unclean. You can easily catch diseases and who knows what else. It makes me not want to go to any other fast food place even though I don't live near that one. Because if it happened there it can happen to any other fast food place. Health inspectors should visit fast food places more often than any other place.

I totally agree they should be visiting these places more often than they have been...The update is that place is shutting down and not reopening...That's good news alone

What I wonder about is if this has happened before, or if it's ongoing..I mean that person who video taped these rats in there just happened by at the right time. I'm sure it's not the first time those rats have been in there. They just got caught finally. And how many other places, eateries, have the same problem, but no one has caught it on tape, yet? Aren't there millions of rats in New York City? They're going somewhere at night to find food, and it dosn't take much for a rat to get into a restuarant and find food. What really goes on when no one is looking? I have Taco Bells in my area, and I'm sure there are no rats in there at night, we don't have a rat problem. There may be a mouse or two once in awhile. I'd still get my 7-layer burrito there, as I feel they are probably being extra careful now with their food and cleanliness. I like Taco Bell, I'd hate to see it go down.

They had a breakout of the E. Coli prior to this...That alone would scare me into going back again. As long as you comfortable with that place, knowing it's clean and such, you shouldn't have any issues eating there..

This even made news in California. And, it looked pretty bad. I know that sometimes vermin get into places once in a while, but that looked like they had been there a long time.

I read this too and my mother read it thinking it was here at our local Taco Bell. I use to work for Taco Bell and they were very strict with the health codes here in MS. I don't see how anyone could get by the helath department and have a restuarant under these conditions. Most restuarants do have some pest in them no matter how clean they are. Pest comes to food, but this was ridiculous and they should be shut down for good.

Yes, they said on the news that they are all closed as well as all the other chains the owner has until further notice... The funny thing is now here locally in the DC/MD/VA area, the inspection places here are going through their chain of restaurants and closed a store down today...Funny how this story made headlines and now other places are checking their establishments...lol

I live in NYC. I have eaten at this taco bell severl times because it is open late and I work late nights many times. You'd be surprised how many of the top restaurants that appear safe because they look clean or have a good reputation actually have many violations. Go ahead, and look some up yourself on http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/rii/index.shtml
NYC is a CITY...therefore, vermin run about in most places. It's unavoidable, because even if you're doing your part to not have vermin, a guy two stores down may not be, and that effects the whole building. This has nothing to do with Taco Bell as a restaurant. Please check out that website, and you will see MOST PLACES in NYC have violations. I guarentee, however, that if the New York City department of health went to a small town and inspected some of their restuarants, they would also have many violations that would stun you.
What am I thinking now? Darn...where am I going to get yummy food for a reasonable price at 2:00am? Oh, I know! I'm going to go to "Around the Clock." They still have 10 points worth of violations. That really won't stop me from eating there. It's gross, yes, but you really don't know where your food has been before you ate it, either, now do you? (Unless you grow it yourself!) :P
Of course I'm not going to eat at that location until they clean up their act. This is NYC, though...and we keep moving on. If I were people in other areas, I would still eat at Taco Bell. Heck, I'm going to go to one tonight! (Not the one on 2nd Ave, though!!!)

I guess the best solution anyone can have is to cook our own food at home. We just couldn't endanger our health and put our family's health at risk.

This is absolutely gross! I can't imagine ever working anywhere where there were rats running around! Especially a food place. NO WAY! They should shut down this KFC-Taco Bell.
We have a KFC-Taco Bell in the next town. I never eat there-
I won't eat anyplace where it isn't clean looking.
I was once fired from A Pudgies Pizza place because I wanted to sweep the floor and mop it- I was told the morning shift did it! That was gross! I said Oh its ok I'll do it anyways- I was fired for insubbordination! I never ate at that place again! GROSS!

OH MY GOODNESS, it just goes to show what people really care about...If I'm eating somewhere the place has to be clean. Even the bathrooms...Some people don't really care, some don't even know or observe where they are about to eat..
This is a wake up call for restaurants all over..Think about the ones that are not clean and after seeing this, they change their act..So for the good, I'm glad it was aired on television not for us who likes to eat out, but for those that managed these places...

That's really sad, that one worker got fired for voicing how he felt about the sanitariness of the conditions :( I really don't think that he should have been fired. It sounds like things are pretty bad, if they have huge rats running around. They'll have to shut down until they can take care of the problem, I would think. I mean, rats carry all kinds of diseases! Don't get me wrong, I'd like to have a tame rat for a pet - honestly, I think that they're awesome *laugh* But I would not want to go anywhere near a restaurant that had been even suspected of having rats in the building, because they really do carry some pretty bad germs and diseases and bacteria.

hehehe, Well MsWolf, I tell you this, think of when they say they business is back up, I wonder how many people will go back to those same 2 places to get food. I know that would be off limits...I couldn't do it..
Aww a pet rat huh? I guess as long as it's the cute white ones with the red eyes :) but the big ones are REALLY scare to me...lol

That is grosse, Im so glad Ive never heard of it here in the Aus. That would make me so sick, and to think people actually work in a place like that and dont do anything about it, thats worse. they should be fired for allowing it to be like that. I know you cant stop rodents, but you sure can prevent them.

I know...They actually closed down every store that that particular owner had to do a thorough investigation....I'm happy for that..Hope it sets an example for other establishments that don't care about their restaurants

The rats come out at night, it's not like they're running around during the day.
There was construction downstairs and in New York there are rats everywhere, that's what caused the little scampers to run amok

I just heard about this today as I was searching the internet and was shocked about all of this, though I know Taco Bell has had problems before here and elsewhere. That is terrible and wonder how management got away with such poor working conditions and with these rodents roaming around. This probably would not stop me from eating at KFC since I have not heard of any previous problems here. I certainly would not want to work under those conditions and fortunately have not experienced that.

I know I wonder myself...I don't know why some people don't just address it or these managers that have the employee complaining about it..The one that spoke up got fired, just sad...I wouldn't want to work under those conditions either, knowing me, I would be looking around to make sure that no rats are around me..lol

I think all food places have rodents, cockroaches and everything else. Don't they do health inspection tests? If this store was not passing then it would have been closed by now. They should probably think of a renovation if this is true.

I have been to NYC and it is way far from what I thought. I am from California and NYC is just more dirtier and busier compared to our downtown here. There's no doubt that they would have rats in there. It's just hard to believe that the restaurant management didn't do anything asap to get rid of the rats. Maybe that's why they looked really healthy...lol. Very nasty and I just don't want to think that ALL restaurants have RATS roaming around. I hate rats...disgusting!

I think this is totally skin craweling rodents running around literally over running a resturant..It is totally something that makes u think twice about eatting out at all u never know what happens at night in any of these place's and to make it worst just think how many times they tasted the grease that they use day in and day out in this place...Just imagine ordering a bucket of chicken with rat droppings in the bottom of the bucket u wouldn't even realize what it was because of the fact that the chicken crust has blk stuff in it .....gross and I think this place should not be a building to handle food any longer...EWWWWWWWWW

That wasn't an invasion. I saw that on CNN today, the video. Those rats may have just came out at night, but those boys knew what they were doing. It was beyond disgusting. Someone knew they had a rat problem. CNN had said that Taco Bell headquarters were saying that they came up from the storage portion in the basement. That's still disgusting...what are they storing down there that would have that many rats running around. These were mice either, these were huge nasty rats. Disgusting. That place needs closed down forever, too disgusting.
