When I was younger, they'd vary where they placed my baskets every year. Sometimes they'd place the baskets right in the living room for me to find right when I woke up. Other times they'd place them in the laundry room with the door shut so I'd have to do a bit of a search to find them. I think hiding them is a cute idea.

I would do whatever is the most fun for you and the kids. I'm sure that the kids like the hunt of finding their Easter basket. For me, I always set it out and then hid the fake plastic easter eggs in the yard filled with change and other special treats. I never thought of hiding the Easter basket but that is a good idea. Where have you hidden yours?

well this will be the first year my middle son is old enough to hide his but with our oldest we have hidden it in the kitchen selves and then another year we hide it in his room at the foot of his bed and he had the hardest time finding that one.lol last year their dad was in iraq for the year and he ordered them a big jumping castle and had it sent home for them for easter so i set that up in the middle of the dinning room and hid the basket in it. i didn't want it to be to hard cuz there dad was getting on the computer so he could see when they got up on the cam and he only had half hour. it was nice though. other then that it was pretty much out were he could see cuz he was to little but now this year its gonna be a blast. my two oldest are old enough to find them. the middle will need some help but my oldest is 6 so i can really hid his.hehehe
we also do the eggs so we don't put alot of candy in the baskets cuz they get it in the eggs. we put little toys and crayons and books with a little candy.

My mother used to also do things such as these and i think that as children and even adults we tend to look forward to the little things sometimes such as hiding a basket. I think that you can both win with this one though because you can set out the baskets and then have an egg hunt and this makes it that much more interesting and i say some well worth added fun!!!

When I was a kid, my parents always hid my Easter basket. One year they actually hid my basket inside out dishwasher.(thanksfully it was empty) I think hiding the gifts are fun and exciting for the children. I know I had a blast until I couldn't find it, then I would just get upset! I don't think their is anything crazy about it!

When I was growing up it was you got the basket in the morning with cerel boxes, cerel bars, instant oatmeal packages, and hard boiled eggs, then later we looked for the eggs with candy, colors and toys.

My daughter is 10 and we still hide her basket-- We also hide easter eggs in the back yard.. I buy her a couple of small things too.. (Last year it was a bike- not too small).. but usually spring outfit or something- I put this out for her.
Half of the fun of the Easter Bunny is looking where he hid the goodies. One year my daughter was so upset- I hid it in the dryer-- She looked and looked. I had to give her clues... Not sure where I'll hide it this year--
So I say hide it--

I hide everything , for the little one's I hide the stuff so they can look for it and for the older one's I make a treasure hunt for them to follow to find where the bulk of there stuff is , during the hunt , they can find different treats if they are the first to figure out the clue . Once they have figured out the game and find the rest of their stuff , then there is candy ,clothes and whatever else I picked up for them for all of them .
My mom always hid all our stuff and we would look forever and still not find everything . Our friends loved coming up as they would find stuff and we would let them keep what they found as my mom got so much for us . She would always forget where she put the stuff and we would still be finding things at Christmas so I always write down where I put everything so this does not happen lol .

Hi Aretha. When I was a child our parents would have the various easter goodies in plain sight for us to find. They both worked shifts so it could be so that we could find them easily on easter morning while they were either still sleeping or at work. I don't know why but I have never done this with my own. May be its because I don't work shifts and long hours like they did lol. Instead as soon as they were old enough on easter eve I woul hide goodies all over the place and make up clues for every location. On easter morning they would all be off on the search which in essence was a treasure hunt. Before, when most of them couldnt read, the clues use to be pictures. As soon as I had enough who could read I changed the clues to written ones. At each place I put enough goodies so that all got 1 each per location. Yes, I learnt early that if I only put 1 per site then the eldest tended to end up with the whole lot lol. Doing it this way also discouraged them from running off and leaving the others behind, as there would be no point other than causing tears. My kids love doing this every easter but I don't see any harm in just laying them out. Its just not as fun for children but that is all.

i think alot of people do the treasure hunts, maybe i'll have to try that. we just do the egg hunt after dinner so they have something to look forward to later in the day. if we do try it we will have to put enough for all as well. thanks for that idea
thank you

We just leave the basket sitting out. That way when the kids get up first thing in the morning they are there and waiting for them. We do however hide the colored easter eggs for them to find. But I have never heard of hiding the baskets before. Thanks for sharing your tradition as a child with us!
