It depends on what and where I'm reading. I can read for hours if the book is good, the place is comfortable (but not too comfortable if you know what I mean.) If I'm laying down, I will go to sleep - especially if the cats are "helping" me read. Helping means, of course, preventing. I read an entire book - not too long or complicated - but the whole thing yesterday & took a long nap too!

Come to think of it, it's so hard to find a posture of lying/standing/sitting AND of holding the book! Those avid readers will definitely know what I mean.

Only if it's late at night do I get sleepy reading. Sometimes my mind wanders and i have to reread a page but usually it keeps my interest.

Sometimes that happens to me after a long day, if I go to read in bed, or if I get too comfortable. So now if I start to get sleepy while I"m reading, I move into a different chair.

I finished a course that required a lot of reading, so I can read up to 7 hours a day. I can be with my book for 3 hours straight without breaks. If I am reallly interested in the story of a novel, I won't stop reading until I finish the whole book.

I did some speed reading classes when I was younger (much Younger) and one thing they taught us was that if you are getting sleepy as you read or your thoughts are wandering on a page it is because you came across a word that you did not know or understand. If you go back through the page may find the word. At this time my eyes fatigue. They just give out but that is due to my illness and age. Hope this helps Caorline

Before reading, I think it is important to know your PURPOSE. Is your purpose of reading that book for the information it provides? Or for entertainment/relaxation? Or to learn new words? If it's the first, as long as you NEED to know the meaning of each difficult word, check the dictionary. If it's the second, as long as it doesn't mar your enjoyment, leave it. If it's the last, check every single word that stumps you. :)

I can read a book all day save for the breaks I have to take for meals. I sometimes get sleepy because I'm so relaxed reading the book.

Usually it happens only if you have to read those books which are not of your interest. But it is strange that you do want to read a book , that too of your interest but you cannot. There can be only one reason, you are tired, you don't get enough sleep. If you are student, then it is obvious that you have lot of studies to do. your eyes and brain are already tired, that is why you feel sleepy. Best thing is not to over burden yourself. If you have exams or studies on your head then finish it first. Try to get proper sleep , only when your mind is fresh and you feel energitic, then read the book. I am sure this is common problem with many other people your age. If you are working man, still same applies, lack of sleep, so try to sleep so that you dont get sleepy and unwanted times. Best of luck.

I think that if you are really interested in reading then you will not get sleep.. i can usually read for three to four hours... take up an article that interests you, to start with take a newspaper and try to finish it off, develop this habbit and see if it works or not

Some topics are not as interesting as others that is for sure I try to answer what is interesting and ones that have no response. Just keep plugging at it and will get better. Find some that interest you instead of bore you.

Longest I have ever read was for eight hours at a shot on a long trip. I didn't read the whole time - I got off for bathroom breaks, etc. I was reading different books. Have difficulty knowing what to do on those trips.

I think it depends on what am i reading.Sometimes i have to just pick up something for the sake of it but eventually i get engrossed. If i love what i read,i cant leave it unfinished.Recently i read Dan Brown, read all his works, could'nt put it off.

If the topic is really something you are very interested in, then it means that you are really tired. Chuck the book aside and go catch a good night's sleep. Otherwise back to the question, I have tried reading non-stop (save for meal breaks) from the time I wake up till sleep. The book must be really interesting of course. Normally though, a few hours at a go is the most for me.
