King (or Queen) of copy/paste

I skimmed five pages of this person's posts and I would bet each one was copied from a magazine, newspaper or journal. I have reported him to myLot at least twice before but he is still allowed to earn points for copy/pasting. Maybe I'm doing something wrong actually writing topics and responses. Guess I could really boost my points if I spent as much time copy/pasting as I now spend composing original comments.
If you're interested in looking at his posts, just click on my link and look at discussions I've responded to, his member name starts with q and ends with 008.

Hello dragonstar.....
They probably just haven't gotten to it yet.
Keep in mind there are 100's possibly 1000's of topics, multiplied by the number of members, almost 74,000 and counting......that makes how many possible discussions and reports every week ???
Given enough time they do a decent job of weeding out the garbage.
Tom

Yes they do have a lot to sort through. It's just that others I have reported have been dealt with and this one just keeps on abusing. Sometimes I feel like a martinet and that is not what I want to be.
So I'll wait a while and see if anything is done. And if not, then oh well, I tried. :-)

I try not to let myself get stirred up over people who abuse the system. I have come across discussions and members who seem to operate like that, and I frankly can't see changing my own style on account of their actions... I prefer to see quality content on myLot, so that's what I try to put out there... and whenever I come across someone who seems to just be wasting everyone's time, all I guess I can really do is use the report button and move on, without commenting.
If they are copying from a web site, they are ultimately likely to be guilty of some kind of copyright infringement... and I usually point that out in my reports, since companies (such as myLot) tend to be somewhat fearful of lawsuits.

I too have reported him. Unfortunatly it seems to be taking mylot a long time to get the point about several of these copy/paster plagerizers. Another one, that you have responded to...(name begins with R and ends in 12), has been stealing posts from another forum and copy and pasting them. They say they are a m 24 from Indonesia, yet in the posts, sometimes he is from WA, or another state, sometimes a woman. You can definitly tell that all his discussions are not his own. Besides that he floods the board with 20-50 different discussions a day. One of the forums he uses to steal from is Real Life Forums. Please help in reporting him too, so maybe we can get rid of some of these plagerizers. As a writer, nothing ticks me off more than having someone take credit for another's words and writing. Good topic, that needs to be addressed by all.

I reported this one too, in fact, I started another post about him/her but forgot to leave the hint about his/her member name.
Think maybe we should each report these violators. If myLot sees numerous reports on one member, they may act faster.

Hello....
Given the amount of material they need to sift through, sometimes it can take a month or more before they even see our reports. From others I talked to about this, I've heard it can take even longer.
Personally, I think they should have more moderators.

I think you're right about it taking a long time. One spammer that I reported and I thought was gone is posting again today. I guess they just took a vacation.

well there will be so many post for the administration to get to so maybe they havent reached it as yet.copying articles and pasting them to prove facts i dont mind but just for the sake of earning points if goes around spamming then thats not right.i dont know why people get so low at times.my lot is good enough to pay for good posts, why try to spoil their name is what i dont understand.i have never pasted even once during my time i spent hre.not that i cant but i dont want to.

I could understand copy/pasting part of an article to illustrate a point, or to provide factual information to someone seeking an answer to a question. But copying an entire article should be against the rules and I don't think anyone should earn points for that. It's insulting to the rest of us who take the time to type well-thought answers to questions and do the research on our own.

Keep on reporting him.
Maybe mylot couldnt see it with the other reports for some reason or another, but, if he keeps getting reported, mylot will eventually have to do something about it.

well he was given a chance to copy paste and he did... may i know exactly which part of it bums u out?
you have that facility and you use it!
i am also one of the few people who copy paste! i dont see whats wrong about it... you can look in the discussions that i have started! like "funniest jerry sienfeld quotes".
how am i to sit and type out all that?? there are lots times when discussions have to be copy-pasted.... have some considerations for people... after all he wasnt cheating right? he was given the right to copy-paste and he did just that!
i dont see how it would bother u in any way!!

To not even give a link, and then admit it here is asking to be banned! Mylot states in their discussion found here:
http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/373870.aspx
"It is a strict violation of the myLot community guidelines to copy the topics, comments, and responses of other users and paste them as your own contribution. Anyone who participates in this activity will have their account cancelled without warning and will forfeit all accumulated earnings."
That means you can not do this, and therefore it is cheating. You will be banned for this.

The reason they make people wait till they have that many posts is so they will get use to writing their own discussions as apposed to stealing other peoples work. Stealing is when you take something that someone else has done and paste it in your dissussion. It is illegal and most likely a copyright infringment.
some people such as yourself just dont get it. You were given the opportunity to see what you would do after you wrote your 500 discussions and you like the person she is talking about is abusing it. This is eventually going to ruin it for everyone.. If you dont understand it I will put it here in plain and simple terms for you. IF YOU DID NOT ORIGINALLY WRITE IT. IT DOES NOT BELONG TO YOU. Now do you understand. And by the way, how would you like it if you started a discussion and someone copied and pasted it and tried to make it their own?

I reported that one more than a week ago, so I know how discouraged you feel. But some other like him that I reported seem to be gone. I get the impression that mylot does a big cleanup every so often and gets rid of a lot of them at one time. Let's hope this one goes soon.

hey i don't know what the person is copying, but if it's from mags, newspapers what ever, it would be breaching copyright, unless they have written permission to do so, so if you can find out what publication the stuff comes from, send them an email and report it

Yes I saw some people are just posting but not asking questions. They are posting news reports, magazine articles, or just nonsense that don't start a discussion. I am so surprised and they also have a low star rating because of it. I am going to start reporting their posts from now on and I don't think I will respond to them either. Have a nice day.

Hiya - I know exactly who you mean - I got so irritated with it yesterday I started my own thread without realising you'd done the same. How annoying are these people?! I've reported them too and I sincerely hope Mylot gets rid because they're spoiling it for everyone and cluttering the place up with their numerous postings. I absolutely detest cheats!

I have a feeling he's been banned because I had a scroll back through the discussions you've responded to, and I didn't see anyone who's name starts with a Q and ends in 008.
But if they've been copying and pasting, then they deserve everything they get/got.
The whole point of this website is to share discussions and opinions on things. When those discussions are blatant copy/paste jobs, it's cheating everyone.

Sadly, this person is still on Mylot and cutting and pasting articles RIGHT now as we speak. He's just added half a dozen plant definitions (presumably cut & pasted off a botanical plant reference site) and several Oscar reports - all with direct quotes from people like Martin Scorcese - as quick as they're posting them I'm reporting them. Mail me if you want to know this persons name and I'll tell you.

Man, why don't you just leave this person alone. Sounds to me like you're the one that was to be banned for not minded your own business. Freaking snitches can't mind their own business.

Oh that one, ya we have reported him several times too but no action has been taken.I didn't have to go to your profile to check the user, I know him only too well! A constant rule violator, and sadly still among us. Hopefully the discussions that have been copied are deleted. Don't stop reporting him, myLot needs to know every time a rule is broken.

I guess people always find a way around the system. I guess though that if the system lets you do it, it's not really cheating. Although, you could say that he's not acting within the spirit of the system. I'm not sure I'd persecute him though. I think he's found an idea that will make him money, and his conscience is ok with that. Even with that though, you can only make a few bucks here.

'the system' doesn't allow him (or anyone else) to violate someone else's copyright.
