I have smoked since I was 12, my cousin showed me how to inhale behind the Community building. Showed me how to inhale little puffs so that I would not cough so much. Now 26 years later i am still a smoker. Both my grandfathers, my father, two aunts have died from it. My brother has it, got it when he was 28. I have to go every two years for a test because of the cancer in my family. I have tried cold turkey, pills, patches. The longest I have gone a non-smoker was six months. I AM a strong person with determination and plenty of will-power but I can't conquer this habit. Now I think that my daughter (15) smokes. I don't smoke around them or in my home but that still is no excuse to continue this awful habit. I know all the dangers, and I am well aware of all the consequences, but I still can't quit. Someone once told me that the reason I smoked was because my self-esteem was low, but I am sure its not, they also said that I didn't believe in myself enough. I am not sure about that one. Who has stopped smoking with success? Who has stopped that could offer some advice?

Join www.quitnet.com. My husband took several tries to make it stick. He found that when we went away for a month to Europe, that being away from his normal activities made it easier. So start when you are going on vacation and changing your normal habits. He said that this time around it made the difference.
If you cannot get away, change the way you do things because much of smoking is attached to habit and not just addiction.

This is absolute!! My mom has smoked since being a teenager. I never thought I'd see the day she'd quit. He doctor just prescribed this new thing and it's working like a charm. I have to warn you up front that it's like 100 a month, but you prob. spend that on cigs already and you can be on it as long as you need it. The name of it is Chantix. You need to check it out. I promise it will help!!

well brother you will see lot of people around you who will try to bully you, they will tell you that you are ugly, incapable of doin things,u have low self esteem.But...but do they know who you are,you are SPIDERMAN. You are not goin to lose.Fight against them. Never give up.Show them your arrogance. Same way fight with your smoking habit. You know its evil.
Its very hard to get rid of it but nothing is impossible.....
To get smoking out of your mind get yourself ingaged in other activities...... try to have other hobbies so that your mind will get distracted from it.Its within you u have to explore it.Best of Luck...

Hi RachelleDD,
Stopping is all about willpower. You can use all the medication and pads out there, but when the craving hits, you need to control it somehow.
What seems to help a lot is joining in group discussions online. Here you can talk about your cravings and how to control certain scenarios - anonymously of course.
I read an article about this on this website: www.quit-smoking.co.za .

Plz. keep a homoeopathy medicine in your pocket. When you feel very much to smoke use four globles of medicine and watch you will feel that there is no need of smoking. And if will keep pacence then you will get rid off this habit. The medcine is 'tobaco 200'

you are smoking from the age when you should drink milk rather than smoking.anyways that's past.now to solve your current problem only thing you need is strong will power.if your will power is strong then you can easily quit smoking without any medical intervention.you should take every precaution as cancer is your heridaty problem.

me, i stop smoking for almost a year now.. its not that easy to take it away in your system.. but i did my best to stop... now everytime my sister smoke.. i always scold her.. to quit smoking co'z its really bad for her health and also the person who's inhaling it...
you need to have an alternative from smoking.. try to eat some candy everytime u feel u want to smoke.. it helps... co'z i've tried it to... now i'm not smoking anymore...

i think when u feel free about urself that there is no person who put any restriction on ur habits then it's hard to quit smoking, for me i am also smokes sometimes but when i went to my home town i don't smoke and don't even try to smoke as in my family there is no smoker and the city is very small so i afraid if any of my neighbour meet me and told my father about that,i am not a teenager,i am a grown up guy but still have respect for my parents so i didn't smoke when i am in my home town and i feel sometimes need of smoke when i am all alone and getting bored.

I wish I could offer some advise. I quit smoking about 12 years ago and stoipped for two years, then I went through a separation and divorce. I started again and I have been aching to quit for the past year and haven't been able to do it.
I do know the OJ is a good thing, drink some when you are craving, and mince the peel and put it in a plastic baggie to inhale when you can't drink OJ, add lemon and lime peel too. Citrus cleanses the system.
I need to take my own advise, as well. I have kids that are getting to the age where they will think smoking is acceptable if they see us doing it. I don't want my kids to smoke!

i think that is a good decision and we need to go with that and make our friends also leave smoking and a day ll come where everybody quit smoking and be happy cause it is the main cause for the cancer and the unhealthy in this generation and it is the one which is spoiling our health.

you can do this, but there are some things to understand.
when you want to stop smoking you have to get new habit.
you have to see what things is there ,that you can replace with smoking.
if you think very well then you will find what thing is more important than smoking for you.
there is some times that you did'nt smoke, see why you didn't smoke in that time.
it can be the thing that you are looking for.
