I got the DVD of this movie for my boyfriend for Christmas and we've watched it quite a few times.
If I hadn't read the book, I'd probably really love this movie. The actor they have playing Lestat is excellent for the role. And casting Alyah as the Queen was perfect. The movie is very very well done.
But like I said, I read the book first so I was expecting more from the movie. I found that for a movie titled "Queen of the Damned" they really didn't go much into how she became the Queen like the book does. They seem to have left alot of information out of the movie.
Last night we watched some of the extras that came on the DVD and at least now I understand why they filmed it like they did but I still wish they'd gone more into the background of the story.
If you haven't read the book; I'd really suggest that you catch this movie. It's a wonderful show. But if you have read the book you may be disappointed like I was by the movie.

Like you, I read the book long before I saw the movie. I'm an avid reader of Anne Rice's books, and have read all of the vampire chronicles and the mayfair witch series. So, when I heard they were making a movie of my favorite installment in the vampire chronicles, I was thrilled.
I was sorely disappointed by the movie.
I agree, Alyaah was very good in her role, she fit the impression I had of the Queen quite well. And although I enjoyed Stuart Townsend as Lestat, he doesn't fit the image of the blonde haired, blue eyed fair skinned Lestat of the books at ALL.
The entire storyline was lost. They didn't even mention Mekare, nor go into the storyline of the red haired twins ... the history involved that MADE the story. They mixed up key facts, like saying that Marius was Lestats maker, when he wasn't. Magnus was. They depicted Marius as evil and conniving, especially with the final scenes, which didn't fit the story at all. They portrayed the bit with Jesse quite badly. Overall, in terms of the storyline ... I was extremely unimpressed.
They also made it very difficult to try making another movie out of Anne Rices books, since some of the key details were ignored or misrepresented.
Good movie, IF you're not an Anne Rice fan. If you are, the flick will only irritate you to no end.

well...yeah..the movie was so modern....and the book was very detailed.....but the charcters played their role real good...but it was'nt that detailed...like only jesse, lestat, marius, david.akasha and aunt maharet was introduced fairly..the others like the twin.mekare...and some of the vampires...claudia and the others...armand too was just there...but i really like antonio banderas play that role....
but the music and the scene was fair ecstatic......thankz to the artists.....

The movie was rather disappointing especially if you're an Anne Rice fan. Queen of the Damned was my fave Anne Rice novel so I thought the producers could have done more justice to it. So many of the characters and most of the story was not included.

I really liked this movie.I thought it was romantic that Lestat pretended to kill him girlfriend to appease the Queen. Then he turns his girlfriend into a vampire as well so that they can send eternity together as vampires.
