Studies have shown that people who make exercise part of their everyday routine are more likely to keep going than those who just go to the gym, and for over 80% of us, walking is our main form of exercise.
To increase activity you could get off the bus a few stops early when going to work, or walk an extra block before buying your morning coffee.
10,000 steps a day --
This is the recommended minimum steps a person should take each day. It can be monitored through the use of a pedometer.
30 minutes of exercise a day, five days a week --
This amount of activity that should be undertaken on a regular and consistent basis if an adult wants to see the health benefits.

I do a lot of walking as my place of work is far from the loading and unloading area then our house is also far from where I get a ride and in going home. I go to the gym sometimes when I feel my strength to be failing. I feel very much better if I could have a work out in the gym.

definitely yes, and If I was not so busy I would go on for many hours a day. A part form the health purposes, activity brings a lot to the "spirit" : contact with the environment, exploration and participation to little events along the way (in case of walking), different perceptions about the body, mental stimulation...

Hi, I'm new here so just getting used to all the stuff.
I am a little obsessive when it means health. I am currently jogging a couple of miles, so here's my advice:
A) Always excercise in the morning, if you can. I always excersive from 10 to 12.
B) Find someone to partner with. I jog with my girlfriend, and that helps a lot, it's actually too much fun! And though I usually jog a little bit more, I keep pushing her.
C) Take ONE day of from the 5 days to do something different. If you did a good workout the other 4 days, just go eat somewhere nice or buy yourself a treat. Someone has to congratulate you, and who better than yourself!
D) Never think back. Don't say "I should've excercised last week". NEVER EVER! Always keep the attitute, "I'll jog for 5 minutes more today". That's how I've been pushing myself. I started with 1/2 mile the first week and in two weeks I was jogging 2 miles, no pain no gain!
E) Always stretch, and if something hurts, don't push it. Walk if you feel tired, BUT if you feel numb, making excercise actually works!
And of course, I feel so damn healthy the rest of the day that I'm too productive! And at night, I sleep like a baby :)

My only exercise is walking. I really like to go for a walk in the evening. If you can walk through a green area that makes your walk even better. But from last two months I am not walking because of this freezing cold. I just can't bear that much cold, so I stopped my walking activity for timebeing. I am going to start again soon. It seems to get little warm after one or two week.

I have a periods when I'm very active. Controlled nutrition, regularity of excercise, training program,... And I can tell you from my own experience, that those are my most productive periods. I'm more concentrated, I don't get tired easy, 'm more open minded,... And most of all, I feel great all the time. I usually start eith the period like that when I run in to some trouble in my life... About the excercise alone, I'm telling you, even if you have to make yourself go for a 30-40 minute run, the feeling that you experience after
wards is like being high on something... You feel alive.

Indeed, I think exercising is very important. I doing stretching every morning after I wake up. Throughout the day, I stretch when possible too. On and off, I do push-ups and abs exercises too. And, I am on a weekly run routine - not too far, just about 5km perhaps. I try to vary my route each time. :)

I am very 'exercise' minded, in fact I think I am an addict, I would train 7 days a week if I could, but even the body needs rest from too much exercise.
I go to the gym Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, I do 5km runs each time. I work out on the weights pumping iron and building muscle.
I also row and occasionally box! I burn up hundreds and hundreds of calories, probably sweat bucket loads and drink 10-15 litres each week of water!
I spend between 90-105 minutes in the gym each day so that works out at 500 minutes a week on average working out!
So I reckon I do enough!

I've tried all kinds of exercising .. and just about all have made my fibro flare up badly ..
I monitored by steps once for the hospital and I probably do no more than 500-1000 a day .. sigh, and I reckon most of that is going to the bathroom and back !
I've been sent to the physiotherapists several times .. they start me on a programme and by the time I've finished the first session I can't walk .. I was just sitting doing some simple ankle twirls once and I flippin' pulled a muscle .. the physios were gobsmacked !
A few nights ago I pulled the bedclothes up over me and managed to twist a muscle in my shoulder .. it was so painful and the next morning I really struggled to get out of bed as it was the side I normally push myself up with .. I couldn't get dressed .. or hold anything for a couple of days .. and it's my walking stick hand too ...
So no .. I no longer exercise .. I stay marginally healthier by not exercising .. although I do try and do mini episodes of exercise several times a day .. never any longer than 1 minute at a time .. which is just about the most my body will cope with ..

I am a Personal Trainer and my activity level is above normal. I workout 5 times per week. 30 minutes of weight training along with 30 minutes of cardio work each day I workout. Works for me.

I go through periods of exercising. For a few months I am really motivated and in the summer and spring I love to get up and walk outside before I start my day. Sometimes I will do Denise Austin's work out. It's on early in the morning. I have have hight blood preasure and should exercise way more. My level of activity is very low.

I hike. It's not walking, because it's not over anything remotely resembling level ground. I live in Colorado, and my college is essentially situated in the foothills of the rockies. I have to climb over a pretty considerably sized hill just to get to class from my apartment-and I do this 4 or 5 times some days, about 1/4 mile both ways. I've actually had trouble keeping weight ON because this is a lot more exercise than I used to get, but I haven't increased my calorie intake.

I have never been much good at structured "working out," so I design my day so it includes movement. What I mean by that is (for example) that I park the car somewhere in the grocery parking lot that's not RIGHT next to the door. If I also need to go to the bank (which is 4 blocks from the grocery) I WALK to the bank, rather than drive. I also live very close to a large state park, so I walk around over there, quite a bit. I also use a bicycle for "transportation," rather than just a piece of "exercise gear."

My exercise level is "Wannabe" LOL.
I WANT to exercise but just don't have the motivation. Well, I DIDN'T. I decided that I'm going to save my MyLot earnings and buy myself a Rowing Machine. I've had my eye on one for a little while now.
I'm very self conscious about the way I look and so figured that if I get a rowing machine, I can start to do something about my body and then I won't be so self conscious when we head on out during the summer months.
I used to love swimming, but as I've lost muscle tone, there's no way I'd be seen in a swimsuit, and so, it's an added motivation to get the Rowing machine so I can wear a swimsuit again.

I jog 6 hours a week, 3 days straight, every other day, whenever I can, but never go more than 3 days without jogging. I start to get cranky if I don't jog. I live on the 5th floor in my building, I always take the stairs too, it's goo for the rearend!
