Do You Make Greek Salad?

I remember the first time I ever eat Greek food. A friend of ours took us to a Greek Restaurant. We had never been to one before nor have we been to one since then. They make reservations for themselves and My husband and I, along with another couple. Neither us nor the other couple had ever eaten Greek befoer. We did not know what to order so they suggested foods that they thought we may like. I will never foget the Greek Salad. I just fell in love with it. My friend gave me her recipe that she used to make the salad and I have used it ever since. I have never used any other recipe for the salad. I had never had Feta cheese before either and I just feel in love with it. Here is my recipe Greek Salad 2 cups mixed greens 1/4 cup Feta cheese 1/2 cup Garbonzo Beans 1/4 cup black olives 1/4 cup sliced cucumbers 1/8 cup slcied red onions 2 tablspoons fresh oregano 2 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice Add Salt and Pepper - to taste Serve with Pita bread, bagel chips, or fresh bread. Do you make Greek salad?

Greek Salad - salad
Here's my family's favorite! Greek salad (or Horiatiki) Ingredients: 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil 1½ tablespoons lemon juice 1 clove garlic—minced (crushed) ½ teaspoon dried oregano ¼ teaspoon sea salt ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, and extra for garnish 3 tomatoes—cut into wedges ¼ red onion—sliced into rings ½ cucumber—sliced into thick half-moons ½ green pepper (capsicum)—julienned 4 oz (120g) feta cheese—cut into small cubes 16 kalamata (black) olives PLACE the olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, salt, pepper and oregano in a small jar with a screw-top lid and shake to combine. PLACE the salad ingredients in a large bowl. POUR the dressing over the salad and toss gently to combine just before serving. Garnish with a little freshly ground black pepper.

Your recipe calls for lemon juice too. Did you read the comment above you?

Thanks for best response. A few Greek re3staurants (and homes) I've been in have slices of lemon on the side in case you want to use it. I simply pour in the juice. It gives more of a tangy taste.

I apologize ahead of time for going " off topic " but I think your home page is awesome!!! I am dying to know how to transfer " song 2 play " to my homepage as well. I think that your Music selection was on target . Very- cool. I am fairly new to My-lot and am still learning the ropes. But would much appreciate the knowledge.

I'm an absolute "Foodie" and among my favorite cuisines is Greek dishes of almost any kind... My favorite dishes include The Greek Salad(s) and main courses like Dolmades, Tzatziki, Spanakopita and of course, Baklava and the best sandwich ever, the Gyro- stuffed with lamb and all of the ingredients of a greek salad and dripping with Feta cheese-based dressing... I just tasted Greek food only once. I can't remember the name exactly, but it was like grape leaf stuffing. Thats the only Greek food I have tasted. This recipe of salad sounds great. My hubby just like any kind of salad. He would love this one I guess. So, I am going to serve him this one soon.

I make Greek Salads at my work (Greek Restaurant) and we use everything you mentioned, but we do not use the lemon juice. I have never heard of that to tell you the truth. Nonetheless, Greek Salads are amazing. Enjoy!

Are all Greek restaurants expensive or did we just go to a really good one? I would love to go to a Greek restaurant again but I cant afford that much for food.

I love Greek salad, and when I was in Spain, everyone at the table eats from a common plate. I know that sounds really gross to Americans, but it was actually kind of a cool experience. Greek salad is one of those things I get really hungry for in the summer!!

We do not. Garbanzo beans and olives are not an item we normally have in our house. So no we do not make the Greek salad. Thanks for sharing this since it is healthy salad with the proper balance for maximum absorption of the nutrients.

Ohh I love Greek salad. There is a Greek restaurant called Zorbas. My husband and I love this place which has Greek cuisine exclusively. The first time I went there I was skeptical because I had not tried Greek cuisine before. Thanks for the recipe, I will copy it and try it soon.

yah, we used to serve greek salads at my mom's restaurant so i learned how to make them there. i LOVE them. they are just really nice and healthy. i still make them occasionally but some of the ingredients are a bit expensive like the feta cheese. i dont put garbonzo beans or red onions in mine, but that sounds like a nice touch. now i want one!

MMMM! I love, love, love Greek salad (and feta cheese!). Thanks for the recipe, villageanne! One of our local fast food places is owned by a Greek family that lives in the community. In addition to making the usual burgers and fries and such, they offer greek salad, souvlaki on pita bread (topped with Tzatziki... delicious!), gyros, etc. They also do the platters with everything separate and it includes a bed of flavorful rice under the sticks of meat. I know what I want for dinner tonight LOL Like you, though, I wish it wasn't so pricey... we can't order it very often for that reason.

I make a greek salad very similar to the recipe you listed. I think homemade dressing is the key and I do use lemon juice in mine. I have never put garbanzo beans in mine, I will have to try that. Good feta is also important. Yum!
