Watching television programs online

What do you think about watching TV on your computer monitor screen instead of via the good old traditional TV sets?
With many programs already proliferating on youtube, bleeks, etc , and with iTV, TVU, joost, etc adding to the pack, more and more of traditional TV content can be found on the internet.
Can you envision a day when there are no more TVs, and when everyone flocks to their individual computer terminal to enjoy their favorite program? Bill Gates said that this may indeed become the case in 5 years' time. What do you think about this whole concept?

I prefer to watch shows on the proper television. I dont want Tv online except for catching up on the AFL i might have missed :P We have an actual Tv card in our computer, so all we do is attach the bunny ears to the computer to watch tv. I think the novelty of that has worn off though. With the arrival of digital tv, tv looks crystal clear anways nowadays. I dont see why you'd sit at the computer to watch tv, if you have a huge plasma screen in your living room lol! In five years time, more people may watch tv on the net. But i think more people will own better televisions as they will have come down in price.

I had been thinking of getting a TV card for my PC too but we have only several channels so it wouldn't be too worth it for me. I catch most of my show via cable TV... can't use a TV card for this, I think.

My children have taken up the habit of watching Family Guy online. I personally don't think it is big enough or the room is comfortable enugh to consider watching a program or a movie online. I would take the standard television any day!

You can try connecting the computer to the TV screen.

Yup I think it is possible in the very near future. Now with more stuff available on the net who would want a tv?lol For all you know pcs may come with remotes next to function just like our good old tvs. I watch so many programs online especially Indian channels which we don't get here ( not all of them)

No i would always prefer watching movies and other videos on the tv than on the computer. The screen is not so big and we have to sit too close to the computer. Only a few family members would be able to watch comfortably when we watch on the computer. A television is always better.

Yes, tv is no more evergreen now. Computers are replacing televisions nowadys. Its a fun watching television on pc.... but more than that while on travelling laptops takes the place of tv. Ofcourse , when pc can replace the tv , tv is becoming a lack of priority. Each and every shows are available online, so why to waste time on idiot box!!!

Haha, to get rid of non-TV "distractions"?
With only the box, we can only watch TV. We won't be "distracted" by an instant messenger notification, emails, etc. :P

I am not much of a TV watcher in the first place, but I rather have a TV to watch movies and Tv on instead of on my pc... to be honest... Yes, watching youtube movies and things are fun... but I still like regular TV when there is something good on, and truth is not everyone likes computers or the internet so I hope that regular TV does remain around.. - DNatureofDTrain

I think that would be alot convenient, plus the available channel online is more wide in range and even in other countries but like what you said there are lots of distraction but I think it depends on the viewer.

I prefer watching TV shows & movies on my actual TV. The reason is, when I'm online, I like to do other things on the computer. So even though I might have a TV program streaming in one window, I've got several other windows & tabs open as I'm doing other things. And I find I'm less focused on the program & I don't notice everything that is going on.
The only time I watch TV or movies on the computer is if I'm not able to watch it on TV, like if I missed an episode or it isn't showing on any channels.

Well, five years had past, and television are still popular, I guess Bill Gates was wrong. That is why I love Steve Jobs more than Bill Gates lol, at least his words always come true, like the Siri. I always watch movies and series at my laptop, but if I were to choose, i would rather watch on the Television. It is still the best, you can watch while sitting in you couch, no laptop on your laptop.
