Getting friends on MyLot

United States
February 26, 2007 1:14pm CST
Lots of newbies don't know how. Well everyone is different on why they accept or pick friends. So, I can only speak for myself. I pick friends for these reasons: 1: They have responded to my posts. Then I go to their site and see what they post. If we are on the same head level, I will ask them to be my friend. 2: I need to be able to communicate English well. 3: I enjoy their posts 4: I want to continue being friends, not just a one time thing. I only have friends that I really like, and people I am in touch with a lot on MyLot Others may have a different reason. Please feel free to share your thoughts too. Thank you.

margieanneart and I are friends. Good thing I passed her strict criteria! :P But hang on, you mean this friend thingy is not a mutual one? You know I am new here but hey, I love repeating myself, eh? :P Are you saying that if I request you as a friend, and you accept, you will appear on my screen but I won't appear on yours till you request me to be your friend too?

I you request a friend, and they accept it will be on your screen and theirs. If someone requests you, if you accept, then again, both will have it. When waiting, it will show up pending on their screen until deteted or accepted.

Okie dorkie, many thanks for clarifying! :) I am a bit disappointed though that auto-notification does not extend to comments as well. If I didn't remember to check back on your this particular discussion, then I wouldn't have seen your reply to my comment. If only myLot would do something about this...

You can try writing to Mylot with your suggestions. But, if you go to the left of your screen, you will see short cuts. It lists best response, your posts, other posts, disscussions you started and so forth. So, look there, and you will find what you need to get back too.

I pretty much do the same as you when I get a friend request from someone; or before sending a friend request. The main thing for me is looking at their discussions. I want to see that they are legitimate discussions (not copy and paste plagerism). I also want to see if they are similar to something that I would post or have an interest in replying to. I also look and make sure they are not spamming. Age and location isn't really as important to me as how a person articulates themself. Having a good set of friends here on myLot is important, but I would like to make friendships that have the potential for growth. Good topic.

I accept all those that ask me. So far they have been good at make discussions that make it to my inbox, actually a folder that they are shunted to. I learn from others. They give me variety and keep me more interested. I have plenty for when a few pick the best response too soon I can move on to those more patient. I take a chance even when they are new since a few already have shown me they can discuss different things and even respond. I appreciate my friends that respond however some just don't. Overall I like my group of friends and some I have grown quite attached to.

I choose my friends similarly to how you choose yours. However, I never refuse a friends request as I like to help everybody to get ahead here on myLot. If I find them cheating or spamming or sending requests for money in pms, as has sometimes happened, I will delete them immediately.

I noticed that some people just ask to be your friend because you responded to one of their posts, I ask people to be my friend because we have something in common, pets, work, opinions, or just like what they have to say in general. I hope to keep in contact with most of them- even if I don't post as often I will always check in with certain ones, as i have grown very attached to them!!

I feel that way too. I do clean out my friends though. Some people leave MyLot, others just have nothing to do with you after one or two times. They never respond to your messages or posts anymore. Thank you for being my friend.

Yup, you follow pretty much the same steps that I do margie. I first go to see their profile. What types of questions have they posted...are they of any value or are they just simple 'do you like red or black' type quesitons! Then I look at a few of their responses. AGain, looking for something of substance. If it seems they do well on each of those then I accept their friendship! I don't care if our views differ on important topics, as everyone is entitled to thier view. What IS important to me is how have they expressed their views? Have they bashed someone with different views? If so, no friendship from me! I just want people who are respectful, open, honest and who are following the rules!

I guess "Friend " is the best word to happen after the word "Mother" so for me making friends is like having real relnship wid them..althought not able to meet personally due to the physical barreirs but still i would say making friends so that we can share joys and sorrows abd ne part and parcel of evryday's life so that world could be better place to live in...on choosing of friends on mylot i jsut go abt the type of discussions posted by them rather than wondering whether she is male/female or attractive/good looking and such irrelevant stuff..what i see is how much i can associate my self wid her/him even though we are not personally in touch with other..someone has rightly said that u can recognize the person by the way he writes...

I use pretty much the same method. I just had one of my "friends" though take most of my past postings and repost them for her self. Really made me mad and hurt me quite a bit. I don't understand why she did it, but it was almost verbatim. I enjoyed her posts, now I know why; they were stolen.

That's a shame. I have had that happen too, but I don't really get mad. It's just the way people are. Drop them and get someone who is willing to be a nice friend.

Hi Margie, you sound very interesting on the type of profession you have. You don't look like 59 years old...When was that picture taken? How do you manage yourself? Do you have a family? Do you like to travel?

Well, in choosing friends in mylot I do not have such conditions on choosing them as long as they were or are not harshing the others. I love to make friends with the others although they are totally different than me in many aspects. Why? The reason is I can communicate very well with the others and could see this world in the different views of mine. That is totally amusing. I do hope I will make more friends here and could change our view for sake.

On my part I don't usually invite friends but I always add people who sent me invitation to add them on my list. I guess it's better this way just to make sure that the person add me up because like me or my discussions. By this I don't need to worry about being denied by other members who will not accept my invitation.

I add freinds when I see discussions I like to post to.Just like you I browse the discussions they have replied to and their best responses. If I find them on the same wavelength ,then I add them.I also go through profiles of people who post to my discussions and add them if we have some common interests.I also add friends who sent me friend requests after going through their profile and discussions. So,for me it breaks down to similarities of interest ,basically.
