I have had cats nearly all my life, and have quite often have had black cats..in fact I have one now and I don't consider him unlucky...This superstition goes way back, and a lot depends on the culture too that you are talking about..in most celtic cultures, black cats were actually considered lucky, unfortunately the early Christian church for some reason labeled black cats as either being witches in disguise or witches familiars..none of it of course being true...A black cat is no more evil or bad luck than say a pure white cat...and the ancient Egyptians who worshiped cats thought the most sacred of all cats was the black cat...if you're interested here's a bit of info

Many people think so and many do not. I am one of those who doesn't believe that black cats are bad luck. It has to be some kind of myth that originated like years ago. I used to believe that black cats were bad luck. There has been no bad luck according to me, but I don't want to jinx it.

Black cats are not a sign of bad luck indeed they actually bring good luck as the color Black attracts all energies & is the mixture of all colors. Cats are believed, by some Wiccans, to have the ability to sense the presence of spirits before humans notice them. Eventually the church perceive wiccans & pagans so the "Black Cat is bad luck" phrase became famous.

I don't believe that a black cat is a sign of bad luck. If there happened that something bad occurred when a black cat crossed while walking, that's just a coincidence and there's no relation with the cat being black. I have cats now but none is black. When I was young, we had a black cat and everything happened normally.

One of the strongest superstitions, still feared by many people, say that black cats crossing ones path represent bad luck.
My old folks relatives told me that originally in Britain and Europe, a black cat crossing ones path was considered good luck but they were also tought by the church that they were associated with witchcraft and evil. I guess their reputation were know by this.
But I still dont know if this era or generation that belief will still work out... hahhaha

I think it's only because of years ago in the night people didn't have a light in the road. so, when a black cat come, with its light yellow eyes, itt will scare people.. and also, when we drive in the dark, we can't see a black cat across in front of the car, and the cat often hit by the car. so people think that black cat will bring a bad luck..

I have a beautiful black cat. I knew her the day she was born and was able to adopt her a few months later. She's five and a half now and rules the house!
I've heard that black cats are both good luck and bad luck. I make sure I know where Anna (my cat) is at all times anyway but especially around Halloween. I spoke to a woman who works in an animal rescue facility, and she said they don't adopt black or white cats in the month around Halloween. She said more people do bad things to white cats than black ones.
And, I have seen an icon that says "If a black cat crosses your path it means the cat has somewhere to go." :)
I wouldn't trade Anna for the world. She is the sweetest thing. I do try to find black cat "things" but it is hard to find stuff that isn't Halloween related.

I have a BIG black cat with yellow eyes. Yup, just like the classic "Hallowe'en cat" and he is the sweetest, cuddly cat ever. I don't think he's bad luck at all.
