iPod screen frozen, help?

i have a 30GB iPod. The screen is currently lit up and frozen on the first menu - listing Music, Photos, Videos...
I tried plugging the iPod into my computer but the computer and iPod were not responsive - the iPod icon did not even appear on my desktop.
Has anyone ever had the same problem and how to fix it?

maybe you could try going to www.apple.com/support/five_rs/ and see if the solutions they said there will help you, hope it is useful
