Do you save your change?

I see alot of people always rushing to get rid of their change and I always wonder why? I never attempt to use change anywhere when I go somewhere. For example, if I go to McDonalds and the total is $5.05 I will give them $6.00 and put the rest in my piggy bank for later use. The only time I use change is when I am on a toll road. I live in Illinois, so their are tolls every five footsteps (not that bad, but still their are way to many). I then save my change and a few months later after the change has piled up, I will take it to the bank for about $200. Do you save your change? Or do you search for that extra $.05 to give them so you don't have to deal with change?

I save my change and so does my husband. We put it into a jar and then at the end of the year when we go take a vacation we have extra money and it is all ours to spend without guilt. We never really miss it during the year since we don't really think about the change. It is a nice way to be able to spoil ourselves at the end of the year. It's our own little savings account that we have no idea what's in it till the end.

We do the same thing. We do, however, raid it occasionally thru the year for toll road quarters. Luckily we don't have quite so many toll roads yet, but we have to use them to visit out of town family. Since the hubby hates to wait in the need change line, he doesn't mind losing a little bit from the change stash for the time it saves.

That is a wonderful idea, limosonia1! I might do the same thing, I just never thought of using it for that...

I have a very large jar in my bedroom which is nwo half full of change. Last thing at night I empty my purse of change and it goes into the jar. I cashed up the jar just before Christmas last year and found that I had almost £100 in change, so it's a great way to save up for expensive things.

Yes, I agree, all this change adds up so much faster than people think. And once you get the change out, you can splurge on whatever you want, so it is really worth it!

We are change savers, we have to since we often run short before payday. Helps if we need gas, or milk for the kids. Also those new quarters are saved also. Hubby takes out what he is saving and the rest is divided up for our only vacation of the year. Change adds up quickly and when you have to make do, it does a good job of being there for you.

I rarely ever dig out change when I am out somewhere. I dump my change in my purse, where it resides until my purse is too heavy to carry. At that point it moves to a change jar, where it sits until I get really broke and put it in the bank. It's essentially my emergency fund.
When I was a little girl, my dad had a huge quantity of change everywhere in his den: on the floor, the table, every available surface, as well as some in jars. I asked him if I could have it, and he told me I could if I cleaned it all up myself. So I did, and it paid for a vacation I had been wanted to go on with my friend's family. =)

I try and spend my change now,When my children were home and teenagers,When they wanted money I would tell them to take the change from my purse ,but they never wanted the change.little did they know quite often there would be about 30 or 40 dollars in the bottom of my purse.Instead they would go ask there father for money and he would give them about 10 dollars. So now the grandchildren have caught on to that and will take change ,mind you they need a lot more money now then what they did 20 yrs ago.
change gathers up a lot faster here in Canada as we have the one and two dollar coins.

I don't like to deal with the change, so I will give it out. But, only pennies and nickles. I save dimes and quarters, as they add up faster.

I always save my change. And periodically count and roll it up. It has helped pay for vacations or just special treats over the years. right now I'm saving to buy a puzzle machine and part of that is coming from the loose change.

I guess I am the opposite. I am digging around for the change to hand over. I keep it in my car and another stash in my purse. I usually have the change needed when something adds up to uneven numbers. Sounds like you are saving a good bit that way. That's great!

I go through spell where I spend all my change and spells where I save it . When I save it , this is usually during the times that we are playing a lot of poker with family and friends and everyone is always looking for some change so we can play and my husband tries to save some of the change for when we really need a little extra for something .

Sorry im playing a long time catch up LOL.
Anyhow there are times i do save change like if im between temporary jobs and i know i need to save as much money as i can, or towards that years christmas. Sometimes i dont save it and i throw it in the cup i have in my drawer at work so then i just use that money to get pop and eat junk food with. Or if im short on cash and sometime is like you said 5.05 i will give the change to just sav the dollars.

I usually take a big load of change with me so that I can get even money back for what ever I may happen to be paying for at the time

Now days, I give a lot of the change to the kids to put in their piggy banks. But I used to get a roll of quarters with each paycheck and what I didn't use for laundry (I was single then), I put in a piggy bank. It didn't take long at all to get a couple of hundred dollars. I really should go back to doing it...

I have alot of change in my purse I need to get rid of.LOL.I usually end up accumualting change from just giving a whole dollar instead of change.I try to count out my change at the register sometimes but sometimes I am rushed and I use whole dollars.I usually put some change in my kids piggy banks as well. But i guess i like to count out my change instead of using the whole dollars is because my purse is rather heavy right now with alot of change in it And sometimes I try to get it used instead of ending up with alot more change that I already have.

It depends on my mood. Sometimes I will look for a dime instead of giving a dollar. I put all my change in a glass jar and when it is full, I take it to the bank where there is a change counter. After you put your change in, it counts it and then the bank gives you a slip with the total on it. Then you give it to the teller and she gives it to you in bills. I have a friend who used to throw away change and now he gives it to me.

I used to always save my change and purposefully use only bills so that I could save my change. Lately, I've been using my change more but I think that I will start to save my change again. I have a jar and I know that it used to fill up pretty fast. Unfortunately, I usually ended up spending it by the end of pay day and never really saved it for anything fun. Now, I use my debit card so often that I hardly deal with actual money anyways.

I do save my change, but if I'm in a hurry when I'm paying for something, I may just throw it at the bottom of my purse and forget about it! So, it's better if I give exact change so I don't lose any money in my purse! I do look for change sometimes though to buy things like pop, or other cheap things. It's also good for laundry since I don't have my own laundry machine! One thing I can't stand are pennies though! I hardly ever use them, and they just waste space!
