Do you check spelling before you post a comment?

Is spelling important? I use to be very uptight about spelling and check all the time, but now I don't care. I understand that a literate person will see misspelling. But even if I make a mistake you still can understand me. another point is that proper names are spelled differently in the different languages, so there can be many ways to spell them. What do you think?

I don't like misspelling but more so when I do it. What drives me more nuts are people that can't seem to put together a sentence when they post. You can't really understand what they are saying and they expect you to comment on what they post. I tend to ignore those posts. I know that everyone makes mistakes and I know do it especially with a three yr old at my elbow but some don't even seem to put forth an effort to even try comprehensible writing. IMHO

I have always been told that good English is English that is understood and spelling is not important. I like to use the correct spelling but some words just baffle me. I agree that names are spelled differently in different languages and it would never bother me if people cannot spell my name or any other name for that matter. English spelling can be very confusing for those who do not have English as a first language but as long as we can understand them, then that is all that matters to me.

I do not check my spelling as I am pretty confident about most of the words I use. I do not check for typos either which I probably have alot of but that is porbbaly just due to laziness. i do make the effort in my posts and I hope that does show thorugh the errors. I do find it quite grating when I see people spelling what I see as easy words wrong. Example - earlier on a girl had spelt academy wrong. I am sure everyone is going to be scrutinising my response now for errors but I do not mind really. And for the record, I am from the UK so I know I will spell some things differently form the people across the water.

I'm glad I have Firefox with a built-in spell checker. Even though it's annoying when I type in the word "lol" and the red underline comes up, it's useful for writing formal letters to other people. Plus, it runs whenever I type in something, so I don't have to press a button just to spell check my post.
