Wal*Mart has these cds that are around $10.00 for two discs. It's called "World Talk" and it comes in different languages. They say on the package that you will learn no matter what- I've used them and they do work.

I'm learning Russian and I purchased a study book on eBay that helps with the phonics of the language. Once I learned some basic words, I then found something I use everyday...numbers! So now I am in the process of converting english to russian when I use numbers. I want to be as fast as my native english. Next will be common phrases. I hope this has helped!

For learning any new language listening to the diction and pronunciation matters a lot. When trying a foreign language that's popular ,it's best to turn to movies with subtitles in your own language. That way, to understand the story you can read the exact subtitles and hear the words pronounced simultaneously.
One of my friend used to watch cartoons and read comic books of a foreign language because they are simple to understand and remember.Once the basic vocabulary is built, you could use the advanced books and news channel to improve on what you have already learnt.

well the best thing is to go to te the country the language is spoken:)
but if you can not do that the next best thing is to find some people that spaeak the language you want to learn on daily basis so you can learn from them
if not just sign yourself to a course of that language
i know that here the embasys of the other countries have a teaching school so try that.
if not..you can take lessons online and buy books and tapes:)

I can help you with german or spanish :P
XD however!
You have to be motivated to learn german!
It's not as hard as they say, but it's not a walk in the park
especially if it's gonna be the first language you will learn :P
My french teacher told me once Chinese was the hardest language, followed by jap,
and then by german :P
Oh as for recommendations, there's this course called Pimsleur which seems to be effective and my personal suggestion and method, is music and stuff that you like..
You'll learn 9 times faster if you do it while listening to stuff you like or reading something you're actually interested in

The best and easy way to learn a new language is... have agirlfriend/boyfriend from that country. He/She has not to teach to you but just talk in his/her language. I am sure that in few month you can speak enough of the new language. Le t me know if you are trying this way.

There is a program called the Rosetta Stone. It is suppose to be a great program for learning new languages. I haven't tried it yet. But plan to in a few months.

I've heard of the Rosetta Stone before, but never really checked it out. It is supposedly used by NASA and other government agencies. It looks really good! $200 sounds expensive, but I've been spending more than that.
I'm currently taking American Sign Language at Delta College. If you ever get the time to invest, I would highly recommend it. The interaction is great; it really goes a long way.

There are plenty of web sites that reach languages. You can learn about any language you like even sign language. I have taken a few course myself in Spanish but i give up easily. I would love to learn Spanish though. Try going to one of the free web sites. They even have the sounds.

if you are interested in something ,you have higher chance to be successful for it, but language is really hard to learn under many limitations. For example, we get limited time everyday, so what we can do is learn it bit by bit.
Anyway I will work hard ...

I am learning dutch via the internet. I searched free dutch language and found many sites that offer all kinds of different language study free. Do a search with the word free in the search and see what comes up. I can not speak the language well but I will be able to understand it when others speak it and I have only been studying a little bit.

Learning languages is not that hard, if you have the will to learn, you'll catch it up one day.To my thinking, there are 2 ways to learn them: 1) Get contact with their native people, lay a good friendship relation with them and learn from them and brave enough to communicate with their language, don't be afraid to make mistake and their laughter, through them you'll catch up very fast. 2) Listen to radio broadcasting on foreign languages or get some foreign language CD to play on but most important thing you must have some body to talk with so as to gain fast improvement.Hoping that my suggestion will be adopted by you.

I speak 3 languages and understand 4: English, Spanish, French, and Latin (Latin is the one I understand). English is the language I grew up speaking, and then I learned French (to a point). Since French, Spanish, and Latin are all Romance languages, the roots are similar. That really helped, especially when reading the languages. I understand better than I speak. One thing you have to understand when speaking another language: you cannot think in one language and speak in another. When you're thinking in Spanish, Spanish comes out. This helps with your understanding of that language. It took me forever to figure that out, but once I did, it helped me soooo much.
I learned all of my languages in school. When my little sister and brother were really little, though, we used to put them to sleep with these CDs that had lullabyes in different languages. Scientifically and psychologically, this is supposed to make learning languages later in life easier.
My advice? There are lots of chances online, or at a library or school in the area, where you can learn a language. There are DVDs and VHSs that are made for teaching people how to speak that language. The main thing you need to do is go get a CD (or several lol) and listen to it every night while you sleep. This is very effective. When you're asleep, your mind is relaxed, and so it soaks in more. I have this instrumental CD that I listened to every night for a week while I slept. Then, when I listened to it when I was awake, I ended up humming along, even though I didn't even know I had heard the song. It really works, even if it doesn't seem like it right away. Or you could always meet someone from that country and ask them to teach you. There are always foreign exchange students at my school every year. Last year this guy from Saxony, Germany came. Just listening to him speak German was awesome, and he even taught me a few phrases. So, that is always an option...

I can't think of any other way than having someone to teach you. Learning to speak a foreign language is almost impossible to self teach.., specially if your not familiar with its alphabet. By the way, what languages are you interested in?
