I am so excited. My son who is in the military is coming home on leave soon. The Army has done a wonderful job of keeping us connected to our son. They have made sure that they have internet and the army encourages the men to make contact with family. I talk to my son quite often on yahoo messenger. In fact, I just got done talking to him. He even has a web cam so I can actually see if he is okay or not. Things have sure changed in the military. World War II veterans have told me that they would have to wait several months just to get a letter from home. Amazing!!!

Congratulations on the impending return of your son! I am currently feeling similiar excitement. My fiance is coming home next week from iraq for three weeks. I have not seen him in seven months. I talk to him quite often online, through emails and he calls me sometimes too. I sent him a webcam so I get to see him too :) Where is your son stationed?

This tour of duty his unit has been stationed at Camp Cooke in Taji, Iraq. The base used to be the old Taji Airfield Base. It was very old. While there, the base has been updated with new electrical wiring and other improvements. The base is located north of Baghdad and east of Fallugah. It is considered to be a "hot zone".

I'm so very happy for you and also knowing your son is safe and you will be able to spend time with him.
I too have a very good friend in the Marines, and they have a electronic mail service that you can type over the email and they will get it in a day or so....I was so happy she made it home safe a few months ago..
I know how you feel....That's another great story I enjoy hearing....

Wow, it`s really a great relief to just hear about that :-). Just take him to some special places. Show him his relatives around. And get him to eat something special. Being in military, anyone would deserve that change in lifestyle!. Just live it up!

It will be a sweet and sour visit this time. It will be great to have him home if only for a short time. It will be sad because he is making this trip to see his grandfather in Arizona who is sick with COPD and to see his grandmother in Michigan who is dying from small-cell cancer. He is the oldest grandson on both sides of the family. I am glad he has strong ties to family and country. One of his Great-grandmother's just turned 90 years old so I know he will go visit her and eat cookies.

I know how you feel. My husband is a Marine and he just returned from a 7 month deployment to Iraq. We were able to keep in touch quite often while he was there. The internet was not great as it was down a lot and there were too many Marines trying to get on the computers all the time but I did get to hear from him every few days. He also tries to call whenever he can..which is usually once a week. But AT&T is a RIP-OFF!! Sorry, I digress. Anyway, I know you and your son will have a wonderful time catching up.

We use Skype to phone call him. You might try that instead of AT&T.

We did not send him to the military. He volunteered to serve his country. But he is our only son and we would like very much to have him back when the country is done with him. lol :) Oh yes, we thank God each and every day for the gift of our son. And for those who have asked.....he will be home for 14 days and then he goes back to Iraq until this tour of duty is completed. And then after that...hopefully, he will be discharged. He was supposed to be discharged in August of 2006 but then the unit was redeployed and when that happened, it was an automatic 1-year tour of duty. Keep your fingers crossed that his unit returns on time and with no loss of life like they did on their first tour of duty. I like those words...NO LOSS OF LIFE. We need to hear those words on the nightly news more often.

This is awesome news! I'm so happy for you!! How long has it been since you last saw him on leave?
I love the way that the Army has made use of the internet and web cams these days to keep their soldiers in contact with their families back home.
It's a harsh life they lead when they're out in the line of fire and so far away from everything and everyone they know.
Here's to him spending some quality time with his family and loved ones around him, and here's to having your son home even if it's only for a little while.

It has been about 1 1/2 years since he has been home. He was in the states for awhile but he was not allowed to come home because his unit was put under a stop-loss order. Yes, I am looking forward to his arrival. He should be here March 28th or 29th.

I don't know you, but I'm very happy to hear that your son is coming home. Me and my husband are prior Navy, when he went on deployments after I got out to take care of our daughter. He wouldn't get his letters til he pulled back in and then he felt guilty for thinking I didn't write him.
Well enough about me. Have a huge welcome home party. Tell him thank you from me for protecting our freedom. Give a huge Hooyah from me.

Yay so happy for you! Soldiers coming home to their families and loved ones are the best. I know that is my favorite time when my husband comes home from a deployment and or on leave.
During the first part of the invasion into Iraq I rarely got a phone call. I think maybe once every three months or so. I mostly just recieved letters. When he went back a second time it was such a huge difference. My husband was actually shocked that some soldiers were complaining about where they were at. He was like yeah right this place is like a resort you should of seen it when it first began. They had nothing now there are on certain camps burger kings, seattle best coffees, baskin robins and ect.

Wow you must be so excited . I dread the day my children grow up and leave me to go live there own lives lol .
The computer does make it so nice and easy to stay in touch with family and friends from away . This way even as a mother and though you will still worry about your child you can at least see that he is safe every night .
