I have used olive oil for years. I know that it is expensive but I love it and I love the health benefits. I am sure that you know Olive oil can help lower cholosterol.
A new study suggests that virgin olive oil may help prevent Pylori stomah infections thus prevening and treating ulcers. This is the first test like this done and I am amazed at the results thus far. If these results are found in other tests then it may be a real break through.Olive oil may just be one of the best things to cook with that is in your pantry. Do you use Olive Oil?

I use olive all for everything. I have a book on cooking with it. I use light olive oil for frying and extra virgin for things like drizzling over pasta or salad. I am aware it has many health benefits and it tastes much nicer than normal oil.

I use Olive Oil when I make Italian or Mexican dishes. At other times it is Vegetable oil. I also use olive oil in salads. I knew olive oil was healthy and this is an addition to its goodness. But I think Olive oil is expensive.

I use olive oil too. It is very healthy for your heart and cholosterol lowing. However, you can not cook on a high heat, as it burns to fast. I love to use it in my salads with a little balsimic vinegar. I dripple it onto of pizza's that I make, and veggies. Dipping bread into olive oil with fresh garlic is extremely healthy, not to mention yummy too.

I knew that about olive oil and cholosterol but I didn't know there may be the benefit of helping prevent ulcers. I admit I don't use it to cook but then I seldom cook anymore and to be honest don't have any oil in the cupboard and haven't for months because my son used it to lubricate the wheels on his skate board.

I love olive oil. It has a distinctive flavor that complements many of the dishes I like to cook, and it's also very healthy. It's lower in unhealthy fats and cholesterols than other cooking oils, and can actually lower bad cholesterol. My grandmother started taking a tablespoon of olive oil every day for her cholesterol, and her numbers have gotten better.
My grandma also gave me a helpful tip about olive oil- it's incredibly good as a skin moisturizer, and can prevent stretch marks. She told me that if I ever get pregnant, I should rub olive oil on my belly every day to keep from getting stretch marks. I do believe I'll try it.

I like olive oil and you can also use it to deep condition your hair, put it on dry hair, wrap in cling film and warm towels. If you want you an leave it on overnight. when you come to wash it out make sure you put shampoo on and rub it in before you put water on. Otherwise it is hard to wash out. then just shampoo and condition as usual.

I do this and have found that washing first with a little Dawn dish washing liquid helps a lot. Then follow with a regular wash with your normal shampoo. I would also suggest NOT doing this if you have somewhere to go as it may take another shampoo to remove the oil for some. It is quite effective and if done every week really improves the condition of your hair.

Yes I have been using Virgin Olive Oil for years for everything. It is very healthy for you and helps with so many problems that people do not know about. It helps a lot in lubricating your joints if you have arthritis or joint pain of anykind. It is expensive but think of the medical bills you are saving when using the oil.

I read all of this discussion and found it very interesting! I can only see one thing to add. I have used olive oil to sun bathe. It gives a lovely color and although it should be used with caution as it can increase the chance for burning , my mother used it for years, and she never burnt. I am blond and fair skinned so I have to be careful.
I do not use it dressing as I do not like olives and because of that it does not taste good to me. I have never used it in cooking and wonder if heating it will change the taste. I would like to know. I am up for trying new things, but really hate to waste food if I already know I do not like the taste.

I use olive oil, but didnt know anything about health benefits. Its just lighter than some oils and I personally like the results when I cook with it. I use Extra Virgin though, is there a big difference between extra virgin, virgin, and regular olive oil?

It is nice to know that there many be health benefits.
Good news is...I have always used Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
I know it is a bit more expensive...but I like the flavor better.
I don't know why...but since my second mom introduced me to it some years ago, I have always preferred the flavor. It is not as harsh and oily feeling either in foods.
Thanks for the news. My partner will not be able to argue with me the next time I pick up the more expensive oil. LOL

I extensively use olive oil for cooking and for making salad dressings at home. Not only does it taste good, but the food seems to come out "less greasy" than if you cook with other kinds of oil or (as they did in my family) butter and margarine.
I was vaguely aware of the general health benefits of using olive oil-- but I didn't know it had benefits for stomach problems.

I have two bottles of olive oil: one for cooking...everything! and the other for...religious purposes.
Since olive oil is mentioned in the bible to annoint the heads of the kings and priests, there must be something about it that we really don't know about.

I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil all the time and love it. Crisco actually has a line of Olive Oil's out now. At our local store, it was about $2-3 cheaper than the others. Great benefits, great taste...I love using it.

Hi,
olive oil is great for a number of things. For example, it helps to treat dry scalp and dandruff and can restore luster to hair. It also is supposed to sooth eczema.
People have even been shaving with olive oil because it is so soothing to the skin; additionally, it can be used as a skin moisturizer.
I've heard that olive oil can be used to treat head lice. It smothers the lice and is much safer, of course, to use, over chemical preparations. If I remember correctly, you have to leave it on for some time, so that it also goes to work on the eggs.
Olive oil also contains the right kind of heart-healthy oils that help to reduce harmful LDL cholesterol and boost HDL, the protective kind that takes cholesterol away from our arteries.

Olive oil is used to smother the hatched lice but will NOT kill the nits(eggs). You must remove them individually. Vinegar will help to loosen the 'glue' that holds them on. You should leave it on for at least 2 hours but overnight is recommended. You should do this every 3 days for about 2 weeks to ensure you do not miss any of the newly hatched nits. You will get the added benefit of the oil treatment for your hair.
