I am not living in the states, but I just read a report from one of the organization in the US. They suggested people what to do's and don;t to make yourself less vulnerable to the robber. Their suggestions are as follow:
1-If you heard some babies crying outside your door at the midnight, never open the door and try to have alook becuase it is the hook of the robbers to attract you go out and they get chance to intrude into your house.
2- If you are in a carpark ,someone show up with a gun pointign towards you, you should throw your wallet away from you for 10 meters, and then run away while the robber try to pick your wallet up.
3- When you are driving and someone try to stop you, neglect it and start accelerate, because when you stopos , you get the chnace to be carjacked.
Anyone in the USA had some similar experience or do you guys have some other ways to protect yourself?

Thanks for postin this. I have never heard of any of these and have live in the Us my whole life. I do know that when being robbed you should give the robber all that they ask for and cooperate with them as best as possible. Also when you see someone broke down on the side of the road it is best to call the police out to help them rather than you stopping. My Grandfather stopped to help a lady on the side of the raod one time. She was real nice to him untill the police came and she said the my Grandfather had cause her problems. He got sited for it and he had stopped ot help her. Sad what people are coming to.

I live in the US and altho there are a lot of cities with high crime I am not living in any of those areas. There are crimes where I live but most of them can be prevented by making sure you lock the door when you get home...we have a lot of criminals who just walk into houses around here. I suppose I should be thankful that I don't have to worry much about crime where I live.

I have heard of these but have never come across them myself. People here just are too easy going and don't watch what is going on around them. We lived in Florida for 13 years and we lock our car doors, house doors all of the time and take keys out of car when in garage. People say not that way around here but it is coming they had better be prepared. I don't trust no one no more that is for sure. Can never be to safe.

Yeh you are right and thanks for the tips. Since I start travelling on business trip. My parent had been telling me that regardless which country, I have to be extra careful especially in those places that I am not familiar with.
In US, there are lots of people missing. So, I always tell my children not to leave with stranger and have to be alert at all times. I bought them to the DMV and shows them the pool of people on the wall are those people that were missing and still unable to locate them.
I do have an experience that I had been followed by a guy and trying to be hanky panky. Well, lucky me that I have tips from mylot friends and apartment security who help me out.

Hi Easy888 these are some really super tips...I am glad I "finally" came across them..I am in the USA..but you know..I think they can be applied to any city world-wide..I don't think crime is restricted to the USA anymore.
I know I have heard some things similar about protecting yourself..I actually saw a show about this..but I wonder..will we "freeze up" if such a situation really arises?
I think I would forget it all..the thought of such a thing happening makes my heart speed up so much more!+

Oh wow! I never heard of those but I am not living in the states (I might go there at the end of the year though). Those are really interesting to read, at least now I am equipped with some of the knowledge of how to deal with robbbers *laughs*. I guess I am really used to Hong Kong being the safest city and it's hard for me to imagine something happening to me. I have been to the states for a few times but sometimes I would feel not really safe, I am not sure if it's my imagination or my intuition! I guess I'd better read some survival guide before I go this time *laughs*.
