Engagement rings

I was curious if you picked out your own engagement ring or if your husband did? Or was it a ring that belonged to another member of the family (his mother or grandmother)? Do you still have it or have you gotten a new one? Matt and I picked our rings out together and it was a set of 3. About three years later we got a new set and they took the old set for credit against the new purchase. We picked those out together, as well, even though I actually ended up picking the set we ended up with. It was one of two "sets" that he liked and he had me pick which I preferred. At the time, the jeweler didn't have actual "sets" so we picked out bands that looked similar and my "engagement ring" also fit in with the bands so that they look like a set even though they aren't.

My husband picked out my engagement ring all by himself because it was a surprise! It was a lovely cluster sitting on a high setting. I have lost it in the last year. It is somewhere in my house! I am starting to really miss it! I got to have a say in my wedding ring which was an enhancer style that had opening in middle where my engagement ring slipped through the middle making the ring look a lot bigger!

My husband purchased my engagement ring without me having a clue he was doing it. After being engaged we went out and purchased his ring. A couple years later I came home from work to find a new wedding set on the table. He felt that I deserved a better ring. So I wear the new set he purchased and keep my original in my jewelry box. It still means a lot to me...I wouldn't want to give it up for anything.

I took my wonderful future bride down to the store and we picked out the rings together. It is not the rings that were important. It is the love that we share together.

We only have matching wedding bands which we picked out together. My husband has lost the first 2 bands he had, so we are on our 3rd matching set. I never did have an engagement ring.

We went together and he had me pick the ring I wanted. I actually picked my second favorite because I was very aware of the fact that we were poor and about to get married and have a baby. The one I liked was a 1/4 karat and was like $600. I knew he would have gotten it for me if I had really wanted it but it would have been such a struggle to make the payments in time for the wedding. In the end I chose an identical one but it is only a 1/5 karat. It is a tear drop shape and 14 karat gold band. It was on sale so we got it for about $350 back in 1999. I'm glad I chose the cheaper one because we barely had time to pay it off before our wedding. I never wore it as an engagement ring. We paid it off the week before the wedding and the first time I wore it was at our wedding. We couldn't afford two wedding bands so I bought his on my credit card and we used my engagement ring for mine. I still don't have a wedding band and we have been married 7 years now. I don't wear the diamond either because it scratches the kids and it is too small. Some day I hope he gets it in his head that I want him to buy me the band but I want him to do it without me actually telling him to do it, you know. I doubt it will ever happen though because he doesn't think that way.

I played a part in picking out my wedding ring. My husband wanted to get me something that I'd be happy with and asked for my opinions on this subject. I didn't pick the actual ring that he got me, but I told him the cut I liked and the gold and platinum that I liked.

I did not pick my original ring. My husband did. But since I have picked my ring I have now. And a 3 stone diamond that my husband wanted to get me. I do not wear my wedding ring. It was my grandmother's.

My husband picked out mine in a set, I didn't even know he was going to propose!! And I bought his ring to match mine, it is white gold with a little bit of the regular gold color with diamonds in the middle.

It is something i am never gonna do again But i chose the rings from what she told me she liked I bought them and gave them to her she loved them adn would show them off to everyone right up till she left. When we split told her to keep them they were a gift and a sign of what i had felt for her. The ring had a 10 yr and 20 yr band to be added

I picked out my original set. He picked out his ring, our rings didn't match. My set got pawned to pay a bill. His only cost $30 and he still (11 years later) has it. My ring has changed many many times over the years. I trade up about ever 2 years. My current ring was purchased on our anniversary this last November. I don't wear a traditional set, I haven't since the first set. Now I wear a fashion or right hand ring on my left ring finger and it is my wedding ring. My current one is white gold and yellow gold with 3 diamonds in a row, I love it. I will still be buying a new one as soon as I can. I like to change things up. I still have 3 diamond "wedding" rings that my husband has bought me. One that I picked, another that he picked, and the current one that we picked out together. This is probably more than you wanted to know. (The other 2 only cost $30 by the way)

I let my wife pick out her own. We actually found a jeweler who customized a ring to look exactly the way she wanted it. I wanted to be traditional and have it ready when I proposed, but I'm glad I let her pick it out since she got the perfect ring.

My husband picked out my ring and surprised me with it. In order to do that, he asked his best friend, my best friend, his mother, his brother, and at least 7 other people we know for help and advice. I think he was really mostly just excited and wanted to tell the world. The ring, by the way, is beautiful.

I gave my boyfriend some guidelines, and later he admitted to being clueless. So I basically circled one in a magazine and that was the one he got! I am very picky, so he couldn't figure it out otherwise :) I wanted 3 stones, princess cut, and I wanted it to be a set so the wedding band would match. We later went to the store together to pick out one for Mike. He is picky too and didn't want anything flashy. His doesn't "match" mine at all but I wasn't too worried about that. We don't plan to get new ones in the future, never even thought of that. I like mine :)

I picked out my rings, because I had to get them resized and exchanged, because my hubby told his cousin to help him pick them out, to begin with. So that when we got engaged, he would have them. Well, in general, she has like no taste, or at least her taste is totally different than mine, and his, he's realized. So, I picked them out, when I got them exchanged. Now, that he knows what we both like, he says that he can pick out something nice in the future. It is a cute simple set, I actually put the band and engagement ring together, because they are similar to each other. I like them, and hope that after years of marriage, there will be a different set, especially if we have a long and happy marriage, then it will be a nice present...I hope, lol.

My husband had taken me to pick out rings. He knew that I really wanted a heart shaped one, but I avoided them because they were so costly. He told me what he had to spend and made me look at the hearts. I picked out the setting and the stone, just didn't know when I was getting it. I waited about 5 months!

the one time i did want to be engaged and got a ring. I actually picked it out. I dont really care for diamonds all that much. The one i picked out ended up being a cross between a ruby and pink ice. I love pink and blue ice stones. The only other kind of stone i really love and thats my birthstone with is for March. When it comes to band i dont know what i would pick if that time every came
