Another Rejection Letter to Add to My Collection!

What started out as a likely job prospect has once again become a disappoinment for me. I received my rejection letter in the mail a couple of days ago. I know that I promised to keep everyone posted regarding the results, so there ya have it.
I wish that I could say that I remain optomistic regarding our search for employment, but it is hard to do when the opportunities are so few and far between.
We apply to most everything that comes up. But, I feel that in my case, when I am applying to something outside of my field of training the employer is less likely to hire me.
So, for now, we are breathing, waiting, hoping and praying that something comes along soon.

So sorry. We had such high hopes and didn't you have second interviews? What a bummer. Well keep you chin up and we will try to send positive energies your way so that something indeed comes along. Did they say the reason so that you could fix that before your next opportunity? Being rural I know the sporadic opportunities out there. Take care and we shall hope mightily for a new job for you.

I am so sorry to hear about this. I know how disappointed and discouraged you must be. I assume that there is still no way to create a job opportunity within your field of training? I still think that your training and experience is an invaluable service; is there any way that you can become an independent consultant of some sort? You have the experience to market yourself, it seems. If not, I also understand how disappointing it is to have to "settle" for something outside of your field. I pray that you find something soon, and that you learn to love it as much as you did your previous job. Keep us posted, OK?

I am trying to figure out a way to sell myself to the competitor of my former employer. I have to muster up the courage to call the owner to give him my ideas and hope he will bite.

Why not do it in writing? I would consider writing up a proposal highlighting your assets, training, and experience along with what you would like to do for the company. Use bullet form to point out how this would benefit him and his business and outline your plans for success and your goals. Then call and ask for a personal meeting. It's kind of like a cover letter and a resume, which you will also want to bring with you, but this would be more of a compilation of what benefits he will get from employing you. Good Luck, and go for it. This is what you were trained to do and what you want to do, so don't give up.

That is a great idea. I did think of doing this as sometimes when you give that cold call, you end up sounding like a goofball.

I'm so sorry. I know it's been a tough road for you to be on, BUT things will work out. You WILL be okay. The right job just hasn't come along for you yet? Have you tried the temp agencies yet? If nothing else it'd be some money coming in. Not sure how that would affect your unemployment benefits though. Probably for each dollar you made it would reduce the employment benefit by a dollar too. Hang in there!! I'm hoping and praying for you too. :)

I am so sorry that you didn't get the job. Don't be too disheartened, maybe a better one will turn up in the near future and then you will be glad that you were turned down. Keep trying and I will say a prayer that something will turn up soon.

I know how you feel. I've got a folder full of rejection letters saying someone more suitable was hired and wishing me success. Just look at those interviews as practice interviews. Each one may make you a bit more comfortable with them. I know, we really don't need so much practice, but every little bit helps. Good luck!

so sorry to hear about your rejection letter. I know how it goes. I went back to school for medical secretary and graduated in january 2005, i think i sent resumes to every single doctor in lake county and cuyahoga county with no luck. I am glad to always have the option to fall back on temporary job companys, and finally after a year of graduating i got a temp job with a company that hired me. Bad thing is they were bought out and i will be losing my job here soon between now and july. So when my time is up here it too will be time for me to look again. My father had the same problem it took him over a year to find another job

I've been keeping my fingers crossed for you. I am so sorry this one didn't work out. When you least expect it something will come up. Good luck and keep us posted. When you do get one, you will probably be overloaded with offers. That is usually how it works.

I'm so sorry to hear that! But don't worry too much, thing will work out fine. Everything happens for a reason. Be strong in your faith and be optimistic. When i came to Singapore, i applied for job that's not in my field too...I was from the sales line, but now i'm in retail. Be hopeful and things will work out! All the best!

It must not have been meant to be, but then it is still hard to take, if you were counting on some income. Is there some kind of a training program that you would be eligible for? After a certain length of time some states offer these programs. Also for people of certain ages, etc. Good luck. Is there something you would love to do? Do you have a passion?

If I don't come up with something soon, I will have to inquire with our local job service regarding the possiblity of taking some courses.

I don't know what kind of job that you are looking for, because I did not see that discussion about job hunting. However, one of the jobs that I had, was working at a Hallmark store. And, I would really recommend it. I know that you are a grandmother and really like to do all those homey things, so, you might love Hallmark. I loved working there, it was so much fun, and decorating the shelves and displays is so nice, and simple, because I like to do those things. And, you get a discount on the products and they are things that we like and need. Furthermore, they do tend to pay depending on experience, and once you get full-time, you get health benefits and all sorts of other things. I would request to talk to the manager personally. They love to hire women at Hallmark, especially college students like me, and grandmas like you...so you should have a wonderful time their, and also be accepted. And, I know that perhaps, this is not the type of job you are looking for, but it is not really difficult, they do take into consideration any medical problems or disabilities, if you have any, and if you want the job in the meantime, while you are still looking, that is ok. Talk to the Hallmark manager, in a store nearest you, and don't give up, Also, they tend to hire during the summer and holiday season, so keep your name and face available...don't let them forget that you need a job, if they are not hiring now. Become friends with the manager and staff. I do not work now, at Hallmark, but I hope to again someday...I have made friends with the new Hallmark that I live buy, because I am always there buying cards, etc. Good luck, hope all goes will, with whatever you decide to do.

I would like to share a personal story with you, If you dont mind.
My husband's job closed down. We were living payday to payday, nothing saved. He had already drew out his unemployment.
We had a phone and we were hopeing to hear from some interviews that he had had. He had had interviews every day that week.
He and I were cutting fire wood to sell at the end of our drive way. Firewood sales were barely paying the bills but we were trying.
When we went to the house to eat, our oldest daughter said someone called for my husband about a job. She did not get a phone number adn could not remember who it was.
My husand was really upset and told the girls that they were not allowed to answer the phone when we were not there.
three weeks past and still never did find out what company called then out of the blue a local mine called adn wanted him to come for his 3rd interview there. He went and got the job.
We were very worried but the best job he could have got was the one at the mine. He had insurance benefits, good money and other benefits. We now know that if he had taken the other job(which we still do not know what was) he would not have received this good job.
Sometimes it is hard to wait and worry but Heavenly Father knows what is best. we just have to trust in him even when it seems he is not there helping.

So sorry for you but why you applied for something outside of your field? Are you not satisfy from your current field than you should start getting qualification and training for another field you are interested in.

I have been applying within my field, but it seems that the younger people, with less experience get the job over the older people with more experience.

See i have same experience but i m at younger people group side. Like i have been promoted in my organization over experienced and elder members. What do you think why employers are prefered fresh people? This will help me alot as many people blamed me even for my success that she is younger, less experienced (but i m academically qualified) and why getting much more responsibilities? But what i feel is that i really work hard and show the results and always keen to learn more this is one reason for my promotion and preference over experienced people.
But your comment can be really helpful for me. As i myself dont want to exploit any of my elder team member and colleague, becoz they all are really source of learning for me.

Very sorry about you situation. And I can feel your pain because I'm in the same boat. My husband was looking for a job for over 6 months, with no luck. So I decided to start looking, thinking maybe I can find a job. HA HA HA I could publish a book of my rejection letters. But at least they spend the time to print you out a generic rejection letter, because the ones that don't do anything upset me more. Cause I keep thinking well there's still those ones who havn't answered me yet. But when I call they have already filled the position. So your in my prayers.

ItalianPrincess, that happens to me too, and makes me so frustrated, especially, when I see the people that they hired instead of me...I just can't understand it, it makes no sense...those people are underqualified, and terrible at the job, but I guess there are so many things involved, including nepotism, racism, and things like having connections...the rest of us, tend to be out of luck.

I am trying to just let it roll off my shoulder. But, this having to rob Peter to pay Paul is really getting bad. I just had to pay my fuel bill to get more delivered. Of course other bills have had to be put aside for now in order to pay them.

I'm so sorry, Butter, that you didn't get the position but as the other mylotter said, you'll get the job that will be right for you; one that you'll enjoy working at, where it won't seem like work at all...
I'll keep you in my prayers for the right position for you and yours.

Keep pushing on hun, I finally managed to get a job after two years of being unemployed and feeling like I was on the scrap heap. It is so disappointing when those rejection letters arrive but try to stay positive, think of it as "it's their loss, you are too good for them" I will add my good wishes and hope you find your job soon

Congratulations! Wow, 2 years unemployed. What a bummer. It will prove to be very difficult for us if we fall into the same. I do say that I am too good for them. They really don't know what they are passing up. I am a dedicated employee.

Boy do I hear ya! After 25 years with the state & pretty much the same job - just transfered from one agency to another - for the last 20, I was way out of practice for job hunting & now I'm 50+! I also only wanted part time so I could help with my mom too. I've just started working for Girling Health Care as an aide to a friend. I tell people, I'm nice, but I don't think I could be just ANYBODY'S aide. My friend knows that I'll get the work done, maybe more slowly than some - but it seems I can fix a meal in less than half the time the former aide would do it. That lady also didn't seem to understand that dusting is part of the job, I don't think her place has been completely cleaned - dusted - since early last year.

People who do what you do are a godsend to the ones who can't. Sometimes the spouses of invalids shorten their own lives taking care of them.
