My family love musical theatre, and have attended many productions over the years. When I was younger, one of my regular passtimes was going to dinner theatres, as well as other types of musicals with my sister, and my friends. Today, my daughter and I enjoy this form of entertainment immensely, and we've just been to see Wicked last year, as well as Mama Mia before that. They were both amazing. We also enjoy community theatre, as well as school productions. My niece appeared in school, and community theatre for years, and is now attending university as an arts major, and hopes to pursue this as a career. My daughter's high school is performing The Wizard of Oz this spring, and my daughter is playing several roles in the chorus. Do any of you have family members who are involved in the theatre? What's your favorite musical of all time?

Are we talking like in the theater or DVDs? The only live musical I've ever seen was Grease. Really great show.

I've seen a professional version of Grease complete with Frankie Avalon a few years back, and it was wonderful. My niece also had a part as a Pink Lady in a community theatre production, which unfortunately, I was unable to attend. I too have the home version, and it's great.

Oh, wow! I adore musical theatre! I don't go as often as I like, however when I was younger, I was involved in Les Miserables, Oklahoma, and South Pacific. Then I moved away from my home town, and have yet to be involved in productions again. I am just so busy!
As for watching musicals, the first musical I saw was Les Mis... and that's what started my fascination with musicals. So when my home town decided to put on the production of Les Mis, I just had to get involved! Still a favourite!
I've also seen Phantom of the Opera, Into the Woods... The rest aren't very well known, or were only very small productions.

It's great to find some fellow musical lovers, and Oklahoma is a family favourite for us. We try to go to a couple of musicals per year, even if only at the community theatre or school production level. I've also seen numerous versions of Annie, Peter Pan, and Sound of Music.

Hi! Looks like you're new here. Welcome to myLot! I love musicals, too. I'm a teacher and our students in the school just presented "Fiddler on the Roof" which was a big hit. As far as bigger musicals go, I enjoyed "Miss Saigon" which I had seen in the Philippines. I also enjoyed "Sweet Charity" in New York (Broadway). There are also so many good smaller musical productions and I enjoyed most of them (too many to mention)! I have several friends involved in the theater and I could usually get to watch free performances.

Thanks for the welcome! I've enjoyed Fiddler too, and have seen a community theatre performance, as well as my daughter's grade 7 one, which she had a part in. I've never had the chance to see a Broadway play, but would love to. Like you, I've seen too many musicals to mention here, and have enjoyed 'most' of them.

I've never seen The Rocky Horror Show, but have heard people discussing it. I think this is the show that causes people (so I've heard) to throw toast. What's the reason behind this, if it is the case?

Thanks for answering my inquiry. It must be a lot of extra work for the theatre staff, after this show, but maybe they don't mind, because it's a tradition. I guess your friend should take extra toast next time.

the toast isn't part of the live show, but it is part of the film.
when Frank announces a toast to absent friends, people throw toast.
there's bits with water pistols, bits where you throw playing cards (in I'm Going Home, "Cards for Sorrow, Cards for Pain" ) there's rice and confetti thrown during the 2 wedding scenes.
last time we went, someone took toast, got hungry and ate it.

I love Musicals! I have seen Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, The Lion King, and am going to Camelot in a few days
I could see them all over and over but have to say that Phantom was my favourite one. I had the chance to see if when Paul Stanley from KISS played the phantom and he was phenomenal!

As you can see, I too, love musicals. Out of the ones you've mentioned, I've seen Cats, years ago. It was great. I've seen Phantom, but just the dvd. Sounds like you saw a great performance of Phantom. I saw Wicked last fall, and it was fantastic. I hope you really enjoy Camelot, and welcome to myLot.

I've always wanted to see a real Broadway performance, and tour New York, but so far I've had to be content with more local performances. It's great when we get professional theatre in Toronto, and I get a chance to see those shows. Wicked is one of the best musicals I've ever seen, so hope you get to see it too.

Oh I do love the theater. My mom gives my sister and I tickets to a season of shows where we live. they do Broadway shows, but not the first run. they are so great. My favorite so far is Miss Saigon. I just loved it. It was so emotional and terrific.
I also really loved Cats. I cried when I found out that it was coming here and I would get to see it. We have seen so many, like Show Boat which was great, and Beauty and the Beast which was phenominal.
Oh yea, there was The Lion King too which is so great it is hard to put into words.
I didn't really care for Phantom. I took my daughter to see Peter pan and she was rivoted. She just loved it. She also went to Lion King and though it was great.
We do try to go see the dinner theater also. I am really not that picky. I will attend just about any production. I just enjoy live theater so much.

I've also received theatre tickets as gifts over the years, and it's so great. Onetime I received tickets for a professional production of Grease, complete with an appearance by Frankie Avalon, as the teen angel, and it was amazing. Have also seen Cats years ago, and many productions of Peter Pan, which my family loves, as well as so many others. Like you, I'll attend almost any production, because it's such a great form of entertainment.

The first musical I ever saw was Beauty and the Beast. Since then I saw Wicked and I am going to see Phantom of the Opera in a month for the first time! I am really looking forward to that. I have enjoyed every musical I have seen so far. Including a grade seven/eight production my sister-in-law was in about three years ago. My husband and I really want to go to a dinner theater sometime in the near future as well.

We saw Beauty and the Beast last year at the community theatre level, and loved it. One of my all time favourites is Wicked. Enjoy Phantom, and I highly recommend dinner theatre. I saw a dinner theatre production of Oklahoma years ago, and the waiters were also the performers. It was a lot of fun.
