in the washroom? Or you don't? WHen I was a kid I was always reading some book or other. When my mom wanted me to do some chores and instead I wanted to continue reading, I would just head onto the washroom hiding my book behind me and then stay there reading LOL I guess that's why I still read in the washroom now :) Come to think of it, we all do in our home. Everyone was always leaving books around in there so I ended up putting a basket with books right beside the toilet hehe The ones that we seem to enjoy more are magazines, short articles and cartoon books. We avoid our good hardcovers and big novels . What about you? What do you read in the washroom.

If I think I'm going to be in there for awhile I will grab whatever I am currently reading and take it in with me. I do have a book of short inspirational stories on the shelf in there that I will read if I find I am in there longer than expected. However, one should never been in the washroom long enough to be able to read, according to doctors. Unless of course you're in the bathtub. LOL!

Yes, sitting in the toilette for too long is not the best idea, but sometimes I forget hehe I read longer when I'm taking a nice bubble bath. It's just that at first hiding from doing a few chores and then later on after having the kids , the washroom became some sort of a quiet place, the place where I could have some time to myself...

I have a book called "Dream Decoder" in my washroom. It's a guide to interpreting your dreams based on common images or symbols that your dreams contain. I keep it in the washroom, because the washroom is the first place I go when I wake up in the morning. So I can get up and interpret my dreams while I'm sitting on the john. :-) I do this because later in the day, I usually won't remember my dreams.

That's an interesting idea:) You are right, as the day goes by we tend to forget what dreams we had during the night.

Usually when I am sitting in the bath tub I will read a magazine or sometimes if I got a good book that I just can't put down I will take that in there with me while I am soaking. Usually not in there long enough while just using the bathroom to get bored enough to need something to read..lol

I read whatever novel I happen to be reading at the time. The bathroom is about the only place I can get any peace, so it's prime real estate for diving into a good book.

Oh yes, prime real estate does cover it perfectly. It's the same in my house, although now with the kids a bit older it's getting less hectic:)

There was no reason for me hide my book in the wash room. Whenever someone called me for some chores, all I wanted show was that I was reading something. Reading any damn things was encouraged at my home. So, no problems at at all. But loitering here and there without doing anything was pardoned at all. So, the best thing for me was to grab a book and sit. No matter I read it or not.

Well... when I was a boy I prefer the cartoon books in the washroom, but now, always read some textbooks or some vocabulary books --- you may dont know, in China there is an old saying: people have three "on", on the horse, on the pillow, on the closestool. Yes it sounds eccentric, but in truth, when people actually "on" these three "on", the brain is on the most active situation, then you can more easily to set up the inspiration or strengthen the memory! So, I like to read the studying books when I'm in the washroom.

That's an interesting theory. I never thought about it that way, but I'm glad it works for you.

I use to do that all the time when I was younger. I think there is a correlation between feeling relaxed after emptying your bowels and reading a book because the feeling enhances your enjoyment with the reading material. But Im older and wiser now. Bottomline, no matter how clean you think you are, it is a very unhygienic habit. My 11yr old daughter an avid reader started doing this but I nipped that in the bud. No such enjoyment for her lol. Sorry for being blunt but; sooner or later your reading material will become contaminated with invisible traces of fecal matter or urine. Then wherever the reading material goes after that so do the deposits. I won't spell out the health issues associated with this. To think that when I was a teen it was romance novels urrrgghh!!! lol.

I just got the best laugh out of this one - I thought I was an oddball for doing the very same thing. :) I always kept something to read in the bathroom when I was a kid - it was usually a book devoted just to that room, so I could bookmark my place and stow it under the sink until the next visit. I guess this wouldn't work for everyone, but I've always been able to read two or three books at once without getting confused. I'm sure, now that I think of it, that my parents wondered why I spent so much time in there... As an adult, I pretty much do the same thing. Truth be told, that's the one place where I find the most time to read, so there's nearly always a book on the counter. I move it around with me, so sometimes have to run and retrieve the book off of the nightstand to visit the restroom. (Oh my, I know that sounds bad, but I keep them clean!) We keep a magazine rack in the restroom as well, for shorter visits. I've found that my three-year-old is already picking up on this habit as well. I very often catch her on her Dora seat with her daddy's copy of Uncle John's Bathroom Reader, usually upside down. :)

I usually don't read anything on the jon. I just get done and get out. Sometimes I'll leave a sports illustrated in there to flip through, but usually I'm not trying to spend time in teh bathroom, but instead I just try to get out.

Reading in the washroom is certianly very popular. I find it helps me slow down and relax. If you are in a hurry then you usally end up back in the washroom with a short period of time and feeling uncomfortable. One person mentioned that was unsanitary. I think that one can take precautions and make sure the book is out of the way and doens't get contaminated . I hope I am not being to graphic, don't want to gross anyone out . Did you know that there are whole websites devoted to bathroom reading materials . Do a search ony about.com using the keyword bathroom books and it will list the top ten. You also do a search on Amazon.com and they will list a whole series of bathroom books .
