Do You Have A Hooded Towel For Your Child?

Have you seen the hooded baby towels? They are just wonderful to use with babies and toddlers. The commercial ones are so thin that they just dont absorb the water very well. You can make a homemade one that is so much better. They are great for your babies or toddlers and they also make great gifts for baby showers. They are cheaper than the store bought ones also. It is a win win situation. All you need is a Washcloth and matching Bath Towel and about 3 yards of ribbon Take the wash cloth, fold in half with the wrong side on the outside. Sew the top edges together Flip the seam just just sewed so that your washcloth looks like a house with pointed roof. Now you have the hood for your hooded towel. Line up the hood with the bath towel and sew with the seam showing on the outside of the towel. You put the seam on the outside of the towel because you dont watnthe toufh gseam on the back of hte baby's neck. Also since you cover this seam later with ribbon, it wont look bad. Now it is time to attach the ribbon. Flip the hooded towel over to the outside. Cut the ribbon so htat you have two strips that go over the sides of the towel & sew them on. Be sure to sew both edges on the ribbon and tuck the ends under so you will have a finished end and it wont ravel. Attach the next ribbon. Use the remainder ribbon and center it over the seam that attaches the hood to the towel. Sew down the middle of the ribbon. (this will cover the ugley seam and leave you a little to tie the hood on the baby) Now you have a completed hooded bath towel. Wasn't that easy!

Oh what a GREAT idea!! I would have never dreamed of making a hooded towel, but it is easy! Of course, as always, my mind starts thinking of ways this could be individualized! For instance, the college at which I teach has a bookstore and one can get a little patch of the college logo...that would be so cute sewn on the towel somewhere! There are all types of little patches at WalMart! Someone cold just cut letters or emblems out of a contrasting fabric and use 'wonderunder' to attach them! Oh thanks 'village' for a great idea! I know what I'll be giving for all those baby showers I am invited to!

I bought a couple for my son but he's grown too tall for them. I think it would be a great idea to make my own though and save some money. Thanks for sharing this!

The homemade ones are alot bigger than the commercial ones because you use larger bath towels. You can even use beach towels if you want.

I had several of these when my boys were tiny, we use them as extra bathmats now they are bigger. My boys are now on a big towel folded in half with a hood made from another towel. I fold a big towel in half and about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way down puta a few stitches in so they stay together. Take another towel the same and fold on half, make a hood shape and cut out. With your first towel folded the other way cut a hole the same size as you hood shape base. Sew together with the gap at the front for the face. Take your ribbon and edge where you have sewn the hood on. Lovely for the beach and after swimming.

wow what a great idea. I love this. I will definately have to try to make some of these. These would be great for a gift basket for a baby shower along with some homemade bibs and maybe a couple of things for the baby. Thanks again you always have such great ideas.

This makes me wish mine were young enough to use these again! I think this is a wonderful idea. Things are so expensive these days, you have to do something to save pennies everywhere. I do have a few friends with grandchildren and I will pass this a long, thank you.

I have 3 Baby shower gifts to get in the next month! This sounds like a wonderful idea! I do love the hooded bath towels-- To tell you the truth I bought a Great Butterfly one for my daughter for Christmas last year- She was 10! lol... I got it at Kohl's.. She loves it! It's thick and very absorbent! But I certainly know what you mean with the baby ones.. They aren't thick-- And they really don't do a good job... I'm going to try to make 1 of these-- I'll let me daughter help so she can say I did this too! She is pretty crafty! Thanks for another great idea!

I found a hooded towel at the store with a price tag of $10. That is a bit pricey for a towel! Thank you for the idea to make one of my own. Troy's birthday is next week and I would love to make him one! I also have a baby shower coming up and this is a great idea for a gift.

Thank you for sharing this with us! Very interesting. I use a hooded towel for my toddler son, but its hood looks more like a Napoleon's cocked hat :) He's so cute in it! By the way, I downloaded a photo of my son wrapped in this towel in the "parents" interest.

Oh this sounds very nice . I am going to print the instructions out and put them in my file .I wish that I had a baby shower coming to make this for a gift. Actually I have 3 babies that I need to get gifts made for . However, I want to make quilts for each of them. I usually make them a bit larger than a regular baby size so that they can drag them around and use them up to age 2 or so .
