I personally think not. I buy good brands for my make-up base eg. foundation but try and get them cheaper like at discount stores or on ebay- however i've found Maybelline does a much better job than most designer make-up. For stuff like coloured eyeshadows etc where the quality isn't an issue I buy really cheap. The most expensive thing I buy is mascara as it has to be a good 1 to have the desired effect.

thanks for the reply. do you really notice a difference between expensive and cheap mascara? which one are you using. ive heard that the only thing that will make a difference is the brush. i believe in shelling out money for foundation, with mascara i am still a bit skeptical

To me it depends on the brand for me to decide if its worth it. I don't use any of the brands you have listed because I don't feel that these brands are worth it. I do like expensive brands like Lancome, MAC, Stila and Bobbi Brown because I feel that the products are worth it and do what they are supposed to do. I feel that I get good mileage from these brands' products.

Last year i completed a certificate course at the Napoleon academy. before that I only bought cheap makeup but after working on so many people's faces, I just can not work with cheap makeup. For me to do a good job and apply eyeshadow accurately and evenly, I need good quality makeup. But for the individual, I do agree that cheaper makeup can be just as good, you just have to try them all out. right now I'm using some Face of Australia stuff, and i'm quite happy with it, but I would never use it on my clients.

you spulrge on your makeup base - foundation, concealer, powder, because you need to find not only the correct color/undertone for your skin but also the one that lasts long and doesn't cause you to break out -
you can buy cheap - eyeshadow, cheekcolor for everyday use, but be prepared to retouch because they don't last long. a good trick is to dip your eyeshadow brush in water then apply. there are cheektints in the market as well to last long
mascara - maybelline is not only affordable but a good product!
lipstick - you can buy a high end brand to use for everyday, it lasts long and doesn't dry your lips. you can mix with low end glosses and lipcolors to create a different color.
eyeliner - prestige has a good waterproof eyeliner at an affordable price for everyday use.

I think it really depends on the skin. It doesn't matter if it's cheap or expensive if it works wonder on your skin. I personally tried many skin care products, I find some of the branded items work for me and some of the cheap ones work nicely on me too. So I don't really stick to a particular brand.
I think Chanel's Hydramax Serum is very nice, if your skin lacks of moisture and if you have the budget, I would recommend it. Guerlain's Success Model (for firming skin up) is very nice too, but it tends to be quite pricey haha.

Oooh I didnt see the word "makeup" when I was answering earlier LOL, sorry. So about makeup I really don't think it makes so bad of a different in branded items and cheap items. I spend on branded foundation in autumn and winter times. But for the other makeup items I use cheaper stuff.
Chanel Teint Foundation SPF 15 is really really great and I am very happy with it in the autumn and winter times. For eyeshadows and lipgloss and stuff, I usually use MAC.
