Responses.. =)

How many are you truly happy with? I've recently read a few members, which seems to be mylots latest out cry. Those who don't post many responses won't receive them and if quality isn't in your discussion then it's down to luck. (either way I guess it does) This has made me happy. (the out crys that members don't receive many) As I'm here enjoy reading the responses I get, I always have been over the moon and I would be happy with what I get. Of course I can't say that below 4 would fill me happiness although 4 decent response does. (even less in cases) What about you? are responses really important or this just a selfish area which only comes with a reputation here on mylot? Thanks, ~Joey

I've just started here, but from what I've seen, people respond to topics that strike a chord and not necessarily who is starting the discussion. Sometimes it is really surprising what people are tuned into. For instance I started a discussion, "do you get snow where you live?" and have had 15 responses. That was a real surprise. Then I started discussions like, "what would you put in a 100 year time capsule?" that I thought would be lots of fun and only one person responded. Go figure.

Yeah..wow. The snow one ..well you'd think that would be "yes" or "no"...and the time capsule one I would've thought would get heaps of suggestions. I'm really surprised by that. Sorry, not exactly a quality response but it IS honest...lol

I would enjoy seeing a few more "real" responses to some of my questions, or more people taking the time to expound on the answers they do give. I usually limit my questions to things I am truly needing answers to, or genuinely curious about others responses to. I guess I had never made the connection between the amount of responses I post vs the amount I receive but I guess it would tie in. I would also rather have 1 well thought out, great response, than 20 one liners with no thought or real care behind them.

I understand about well thought out response rather than one-liners, but sometimes the topic only warrants a one line response (I am not referring to any specific discussion in your case.) I have read some long responses which were down right repetitive, no real information, no thought or idea expressed and terrible writing.

Hmm, well for me i rather have a decent and quality response than a poor response. I stress quality more than quantity, but what if your post of discussion do not have many response on it or maybe none response on it? doesnt that quantity comes first than the quality? lol like mine, i am not good in making a good discussion causing a big problem to myself. none replied my discussion....

To me, responses are really important. It helps me to understand and learn more about people, their thinking, their lives. Any discussion I pose would have a purpose, and is not posted just for the sake of posting. Same for responses I give. It is all about sharing :)

I think all like to get responses to their own discussions, so am I. I feel very happy when I get lots and lots of responses, but I am satisfied if I get few responses also. I don't make my mood of why I am getting very few responses. I feel more happy and satisfied when I get not only big amount of responses but also the quality responses. I like to get few quality responses than to get lots of one liner responses. But all over main thing is getting more responses makes me happy:).

I'd rather have a few really good and insightful responses than a bunch of crappy ones that people are giving just to get their numbers to go up.

I don't know...I'm still learning this myLot game. I'm not experienced like you are. However, I do get excited when I receive multiple responses, private messages, and a notice that I've received a response to a discussion I started a few days ago...in other words not one of the current ones.

Well as long as I get a few responses Im happy, although If I do get many Im walking on air for the rest of the day. Sometimes it can be a bit disappointing though when I start a discussion I thought was really good and then just get 3-4 responses. Anyway I think I should just be happy that atleast someone bothered to respond and I shoudnt expect too many reaponses, that way Ill be happy with whatever I get.

Also when I first started i used to respond to all my friends discussions until I realized that some of them never even bothered to respond to even one of my discussions. Im a little bit wiser now and respond faithfully to the discussions of my faithful friends.

I am just a new member about a month ago and i quite have done some few discussions.I always get excited to read thier opinions and views.Sometimes i spent hours and hours reading other member's discussions and responses w/c also gives me the idea of thier personality.Same feelings like you do if i get 2 or 3 responses and i don't get more than that i am already happy at least someone spare time on responding. One good thing also i appreciate was someone still anwering my discussions even though it was 3 weeks ago now.Quality make sense..Thanks friend!!

I myself would prefer getting one response even if it were just one line, it beats 0 responses, though I really love getting a nice quality response, something I feel good to read as although I might not reply to all my posts I do read and rate them, usually always a plus if it is within context. And it's always so nice to read something with some quality in it rather then a simple quick and vague response, not that I am against it I know sometimes that is all one has to say and I will still like to read it as a response is always a good thing. It's nice to know someone read your stuff and especially nice when they fill you in with details on certain aspects that were asked even when they go a bit off topic sometimes is great depending on how they went off topic as I also don't want to ask someone what color their socks are and they say yes or no or a "huh" kind of reply when you ask them the color of their socks and they say square. The bad English responses also give me a headache sometimes, sure we all make mistakes but sometimes there's an entire phrase with hardly anything you can interpret from it, it is like trying to put together a 500 piece puzzle of a dark room that is practically all black, though sometimes after deciphering the code they actually had a very good response. Well I am going to cut things here before I rant of topic and go on and on on this and that lol (: But to me the more the merrier be it responses or quality.

It is always very nice to receive many good responses or even just a few good responses. It is not that important to me if I get a lot or just a few since I know that my topics may not interest everyone or they are not familiar with the topic. I think everyone has topics that either get a lot of replies or just a few. I spend more time responding to topics created by my friends and the new people but only if I can give a good answer to the topic. I definitely appreciate the responses that I get.

I have been more than happy with the responses I have received to my discussions, a lot of thought goes into them and more often or not I put out discussions for advice and in return I get sound advice especially from my friends and people who take the time and effort to think out a response I always appreciate. Occasionally I do get a few that still leave one word answers but it's their loss not mine. It's very rare now that I get NO responses to a discussion, compared to when I first started on Mylot where most of my discussions were 'ignored' but I perservered and yes I like to think I've built up a reputation here on Mylot. It's a fine balance between give and take.

I think that quality is alot more important, however getting alot of THEM are nice as well. Sometimes I do think that a person might as well not answered since it was just plain garbage..

Sure when I post a discussion- I'd like it to get numerous responses.. But thats only because I have a genuine interest in the discussion-- Hence thats why I posted it. I try to respond to the responders.. I like to carry on a discussion.. But I'm not one to complain-- If not alot of people respond to one of my discussions I dont pout.. I would rather have a few great quality responses- rather than numerous non-quality ones. I don't post nearly as many discussions as I respond to. I find responding to other users discussions is more fun to me.

Well, I guess if I am honest, I like to see a fair few replies to any of my discussions. If I don't have many, I start to feel like a bit of a failure, and that it is my fault for not wording the question well enough! I enjoy reading through all my replies, rating, and choosing a best response - it is part of the fun of MyLot I think.

I like to get at least some responses - the more responses the more chance I'll get some great ideas and suggestions that I can use or think about. Also, I have found some new people that have responded that I've added to my friends list - like you! Really though, I like at least one response just to feel my thought or question is not wandering around in cyberspace all by itself. I do prefer responses that are thoughtful or funny or show a bit of personality - not just a one or two word response.
